Alissa Kane Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 A bit of background. The specific armor I'm trying to fix is HN66s Mage Nails (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27668?tab=posts) with the UUNP conversion (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/79677?tab=posts). I have posted this on the conversions comments on the Nexus but last comment was about a year ago so not sure if I will get a response and LL is much better for quicker, more informative help. The non conversion of the mod's comments are locked so cant post there either. I basically have the issue where I can't see the armor in first person. I know this is to do with custom races. I am currently set to Better Vampires' NordRaceVampire which counts as a custom race (If I set race to Nord they are visible in 1st person). Something interesting is that if my weapon/magic isn't drawn I can see the nails but I believe this is due to me using "Skyrim Enhanced Camera" which repositions the camera in 1st person to the head position and displays the 3rd body so legs can be see, until weapons are drawn when the 1st person meshes are readied, causing me to lose the nails. What I am unsure about is what I need to do to get the nails in 1st person. In the optional files for the UUNP conversion it says "The original plugin changes 'Race' records to make nails visible in first person however those changes were made before USLEEP was a thing. That's why I provide an optional patch..." Unless I misinterpreted I believed that meant it fixes the issue for custom races but in game they are still only visible in 3rd person. (I have tried with and without the patch and I do have the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch installed). Seeing as this didnt work I went to the vanilla version for this mod and it says "If you are using any Unique Race mod and want to see the nails also in 1st-person-view, you need to assign the corresponding bodyslot in the race mod. For these mage-nails it is Bodyslot 49. This is how to do it in the CK:..." however the link given is broken and says the site cannot be reached. I have never used the Creation Kit before so I'm at a loss on what to do. TLDR: For the conversion do I need to do anything special for a custom vampire race and if so could you tell a new CK user what to do as the original mods link is broken?
RomeoZero Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 You need to assign first person nif for it to be visible, in CK ArmorAddon tab after skin texture swap.Load your mod plugin and point it to hands with nails nif.Pic example navigation for cuirass : http://blog-imgs-58.fc2.com/b/a/r/barom777/382.jpg

You may need to set the race mod as a master plugin for the nails mod and then follow the instructions provided above by romeozero. To accomplish this you will need Wrye Bash to temporarily "esmify" the plugin which would then be loaded in the CK along with the nails mod.
RW311 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 So what they did to make this work in 1st person is they edited all vanilla race records to add slot item 49 to the 1st person flags under the BODT of the races. Any other custom race would have to have this slot item added in the same way. This is not really a good idea for a number of reasons, having a mod edit vanilla race records as well as adding a common used slot to 1st person, but it's what was done so to make yours work you will need to edit your race the same way. Keep in mind that if in the future you wear some custom armor that uses that slot there will always be the potential for it to show up in your 1st person view, which could be very annoying to have a pair of stockings blocking your view while crouching.
Alissa Kane Posted May 17, 2018 Author Posted May 17, 2018 Well its not showing in 1st person yet but I think im just missing something small and simple as its my 1st time using the CK. Furthermore after a bit of looking, the vampire race from Better Vampires inst a custom race but the vanilla one (I'm pretty sure it is) however on the original mod's page other people were having issues with vampires so I assume the same issue applies My current process. File -> Data: Select Skyrim.esm and HN66mage4vanilla.esp. Set HN66 to active file and click OK. Warning message about "HN66... used invalid Biped slot 49 for race DefaultRace" and click Yes to all for disable warnings (I watched a tutorial vid and it said not to worry about these) Warning message about NiControllerSequence::StoreTargets failed to find target with following identifiers... Yes to all Assertion thing pops up about BSLightingShaderProperty.cpp, click Retry and after a few seconds everything loads. So I did this for each colour variation. Already set to Biped Object 49 (I changed this to 60 during a test and it made the 3rd person model disappear too so set back to 49). The NordRaceVampire along with the other vanilla races and their vampire variants are already selected/ highlighted. In the first person section upon clicking select my file systems get pulled up starting in meshes and I go Armor/HN66/HN66_VAN_MAGE_NAILS. Each colour variation has a 0.nif, 1.nif and GND.nif. Based upon romeozero image I selected the 1.nif versions for each. Each of them had the priority set to 0 and I haven't changed this as I dont know what it does but I noticed in romeozero image that the priority of the cuirass was 5. Is this anything I need to change? Finally the .esp I edit is the HN66mage4vanilla.esp and not the HN66mage4vanilla_ESLEEP.esp. I'm pretty sure this is right but worth checking as that is just a patch and the UUNP variant has no esps and it says the file only contains meshes. Thanks for the help so far especially with CK. I'm surprised I've managed to go this long without ever using it.
RW311 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Spoiler First person camera is handled by race, not by armor. You need to load the mod that contains the race data for the race you are using. Then, I think race catergory under the actors section in ck, find your race look at biped body template/ first person flags and add the slot 49 this is what enables the armor to show up in the 1st person camera view. The image is of slot 60 being added as a 1st person visible slot. Any slots in armor and armor addon only affect things like 3rd person visible items and whether or not item can be equipped by each race. This image is from hn66 nails esp, they have already done this edit to the races, so if the race you are using is already in this list then your problem is you have another mod editing the race lower in your load order. You should probably not change your load order if in mid game instead just add the slot to that mod race data instead.

It gives a 404 error if clicked on. Secondly I'm 99% certain that my race is NordRaceVampire as I started as a Nord, played through the companions, became a werewolf then did Dawnguard to become a vampire (I have this installed https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49972 but it doesn't affect race as far as I am aware meaning that im just the plain vanilla Nord Vampire). If I do setrace Nord, visible in 1st person. setrace NordRaceVampire and no longer visible. ------------------------------------------------------------------ After more testing... Well, it's fixed. All of my stuff in CK and TESVEdit matched screenshots and I tried the suggestions so was completely lost on what to do. I went back in my saves to try and find the break point and found an old save as a vamp were I had them equipped and visible in 1st person. WTF is wrong then? I kept going up through my saves and they kept showing in 1st person. Eventually I to my most recent save that I had just tested about 2 minutes ago and haven't changed anything since and what do ya know, they are visible. Basically I have no fucking clue what the issue was and it decided to magically fix itself. Furthermore I hadn't loaded up TESVEdit in a long time so re-downloaded it and it said I need to boot up the launcher which did the auto setup and screwed up my ENB (I think a new ini file or something was generated). That led me to re-install the ENB and now the vamperic night vision from Better Vampires works too (before the was no change in brightness which kinda defeated the point of it). So as a summary, magically fixed for some reason and ENB is working better than before and although the suggestions didnt fix the issue they did help me get started with and understand part of the Creation Kit so thanks to all those who helped,
RW311 Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Things suddenly working is not a good thing really. You may need to create a compatibility patch for your mod list because I can already see you have a problem with this armor mod and your vampire mod just from how they setup the 1st person to work.
