Need help with getting 2 armors to display on the actor

So what I want to do is get DX commonwealth shorts to display along with Apalmemnoms leotard(I editted the shorts .NIF in outfit studio, I deleted everything except the shorts itself.).

The leotard uses the BODY biped slot.

Now playing around in the CK with DXs esp, I set it so it no longer uses the BODY biped slot.  Now obviously, it no longer displays on the actor.

I looked at dickyspinup mod for some clues, but the bikini bottom nor top use the BODY slot, it uses the [A] right leg and beard slot respectively.

Right now I am at a loss how to get the CW shorts to display with the leotard.

Do you want them to be together all the time?  Easier to just combine them in to a new outfit or a replacer in OS, in that regard.

If you want to be able to wear the leotard or the shorts sometimes but not all the time, and still use their mod's respective features.... you can edit the leotard to take up the underarmor torso slot Torso 36.  This would allow you to wear the leotard with other "body" outfits in slot 33.

No, although I'm in nif skope right now looking at the mesh.

crap, I think I have to update my nifskope and sourceforge is down ATM

When I tested this, I did not do anything in NifSkope.  I edited only the 3 Armor records and the 10 or so AA records.  They both need to be updated or it won't display in-game.

I was able to wear the Leotard with all slot 33 body outfits, doing it this way.

Okay, what I never did was edit the AA records.  I'll tool around with it some more after work.

I vaguely recall needing to do something with the AA records from my Oldrim days in order to get multiple armors to display.

So, I spent a couple of hours playing with the mashup again. I was able to get the leotard and shorts to display at the same time as separate armor pieces but the leotard clipped thru the shorts.
I then tried creating a new outfit by combining the shorts/leotard, but the body clips thru the leotard(and I'm not to sure how to change the leotards texture).
I can see that the shorts is using the atomic beauty body.
The leotard says its using the CBBE body, despite that when viewed in outfit studio it looks like the atomic beauty body.
I'm not to sure if this is causing problems with the clipping.
I didn't specify earlier, but I am using the appropriate AB conversions for the respective armors.

Any advice is appreciated.

You're in to custom outfits territory   So from what I understand here, you're using Atomic Beauty, that's great - the outfits you are editing should be for both.  I don't believe either of these mods are offered in standalone AB, but you have the conversions - that's good enough.

In OS - you'll want to work with the meshes from the Tools\BodySlide\ShapeData\ApalArmoredLeotard  and the same for the Commonwealth Shorts mod.  These are the base shape meshes.  Working with anything out of your Data\Meshes folder will result in strange things when you bodyslide it - as the outfits will already have been shaped once.  The ShapeData files are all at sliders = 0.

Clipping reduction is generally a combination of using the mesh volume brushes combined with actually cutting away pieces of the layers underneath that are hidden by layers on top.

For example, if your character is wearing shorts, there is no need to have also the mesh for the leotard and body that are hidden by the shorts.  Removing those meshes underneath is a key part of clipping reduction.

See attached image, how Apal has already removed the body beneath the leotard.

When combining these two outfits - note they both have bodies included.  You'll want to decide which you want to keep (or created your own).  I would keep the leotard body, and delete the Commonwealth Shorts body and any of the meshes you don't want from Commonwealth Shorts - so you get something that looks like the below.

This may or may not clip.  It was designed with the same sized body - so it might not clip at all.  You'll want to finish up the mesh, conform sliders, and save project as something new so you can slide it in BodySlide to your preferred preset.

I was working with the meshes from data\meshes\..., so hopefully that's one of my problems.

On a side note,  I was editing the armor and armor addons properties and noticed whenever I changed the leotard to slot 36({u} Torso IIRC).  The body would deform at the ass and clip through the shorts fairly heavily.  This was before going the combining multiple armors route.

On an annoying note, I had put a (open bracket letter U closed bracket) in front of "Torso" up above and now the forum software is underlining everything I type.
