Stealthboy / Chameleon Leggy mechanics?

I never used Stealthboys nor the Chameleon legendaries in the past. Stealthboys seem to be one of the things that you keep as "last resort" stuff, but then still manage fine without. And the Chameleon effect was always too distracting with the PB glitches and permanent on/off flashing.

However now i started a new SV Mode game just for the Nuka World DLC, went there with level 13 and already found two pieces with Chameleon enchants. Given how tough many of the enemies there are, i'm trying to figure out wether these are finally worth using or not.

1. Assuming that Stealthboy and Chameleon are the same thing - what exactly does the effect do for the player?

Enemies using this are super-annoying, with given ENB and lighting conditions they are practically invisible and untargetable in VATS.

But for myself i can't really tell a difference, playing with DEF_UI (stealth indicator disabled) and the Arbitration mod for better enemy stealth detection.

2. Wiki says that Chameleon merely adds a SB effect while crouching, yet i've seen a video where someone tried to prove that Chameleon A) also adds a permanent stealth bonus while moving, and B) multiple armor pieces stack the effectiveness.

Which one is correct?

3. With the questions above answered - is it still worth wearing Chameleon armor instead of "Cunning" with +1AGI ?

Not to mention the other legendary effects you could use instead, like Acrobat or Sprinter which are such massive QOL improvements.

As far as I know, the chameleon "invisibility effect" only works if you stay still and once you start moving you become "visible" again, whereas the stealth boy makes you completely invisible, moving or not; I don't even use gear with the chameleon effect, but I always have stealth boys on my inventory.

There used to be a mod that toned down the chameleon effect and made it usable. It does only work standing still and the shutting on and off was very annoying to me. I am same as you with stealth boys lol, I think they last a duration through anything but I am not 100%.

Well it does definitely not make you truly invisible, because enemies can see and attack you just fine. Apparently it just makes it harder for them to spot you, meaning that they reach the "Detected" state unlike "Danger" where they just shoot at your assumed position.

What i was hoping for would be some concrete information like "adds a 50% sneak bonus" or "enemies have 30% reduced hit chance" - something like that ;)

I think Chameleon is a 20% sneak bonus (per item) when crouched and not moving. If it wasn't for the damn visual effect I would love it, as is... Blegh....
