RichterQ87 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 For anyone familiar with the KZStyle NPCs mod, I was wondering if it was possible to install it in a way that it only overhauls elves. If not, I'll take any recommendations regarding how to make elves look better because let's face it, they're hideous in the vanilla game.
ppp Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 You might be able to use TES5Edit to undo changes to the other races. Tedious, I know, but it might work as a last resort. Alternately, install an overhaul for the other races after KZ. Have you looked at Ethereal Elven Overhaul?

Alternately, install an overhaul for the other races after KZ. Have you looked at Ethereal Elven Overhaul? I've never used TES5Edit for anything of that sort. It'd be tedious, and a steep learning curve. As for Ethereal Elven Overhaul, I took a look at the pictures and it didn't seem to do much but remove wrinkles from what I could see, and CBBE facepack already does that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
ppp Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I'm not sure what mod you're referencing, Googling does not bring up any conclusive hits for CBBE Face Pack, so I don't know if the one you're using affects elves at all. From the name, though, I would assume it only affects female elves, where EEO affects male elves as well. You could very easily do a quick test of each, I would think. Alternate Start would get you to Character Creation immediately. I wasn't sure just how much of a change you want. I'm under the impression elves are supposed to look inhuman in TES, and not necessarily super pretty. But hey, it's your game. As for TES5Edit, it's my understanding that it'd be a relatively simple matter of finding the records you don't want, right-clicking on them and choosing "remove" from the menu, then clicking OK. You might want to do some research/testing first, though. If you do try, I'd also suggest closing out of the program frequently, at least at first, since that's the only way I know how to save. I'd go in stages and keep backups. The other method I know of would be using the Creation Kit, going into Details from the File\Data menu, selecting the records you don't want and pressing Delete, which marks them to be ignored. The CK is considered to be buggy, however so I don't know what, if any side effects that would have.

Basically makes their faces more pretty and match their body, so less neck seams and so on. And I was referring to Ethereal Elven Overhaul when I said "correct me if I'm wrong" regarding only really getting rid of the wrinkles on their faces and little else. And I'm not too worried about male elves since I think the male face texture I'm using covers that since they don't look hideous in my game. I basically want elves to look beautiful, although granted maybe not lore friendly, but oh well. Rather elves looked like the elves from fantasy shows than the abominations they are in-game. KZStyle elf is the only mod I've seen so far that accomplishes that. Problem with that is that you have to download a "core" file for KZStyle before installing elf, or the result won't be the same and simply won't appear. So it'll overwrite things I don't want overwritten. (AKA anything other than elf.) I have some basic knowledge with both TES5Edit and Creation Kit, and I think you're right when you say that it'd probably be better to get rid of the other changes with TES5Edit. Creation Kit isn't something you want to use for these kind of things, at least in my experience. It over complicates things and could lead to unforeseen consequences. Still, I'm unsure as of what to do and how to do it to get these things done. I guess I could look up some tutorials on disabling certain textures or something? Dunno, sounds like a incredibly tedious process.
ppp Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 EEO = Ethereal Elven Overhaul. Unfortunately, it looks like TES5Edit does not sort by Race like the CK, so you can't just remove records for all members of a given race at once. You have to do NCPs individually, unless I'm missing something. Shift and Control clicking does work, though, and you can remove all selected records at the same time. I don't know if it would be possible to write a script to filter for NPCs of certain races and remove them.

I'd have better luck trying to use the CK, although since KZ Core contains all the core files, assets, and has no ESP, I don't know how I'd even go about doing that. As for doing all NPCs individually.. Well, rather that were a last resort.
ppp Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Are the assets replacers? If KZ Core has no esp, you could try installing just the elf parts and loading up a game to see what it looks like. (Probably really weird, but maybe you'll get lucky.)

KZ Core doesn't have an esp, but KZ elf does. Unfortunately, I've tried installing /only/ elf packs and nothing really changed, because I didn't have the core files.
ppp Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 You didn't look through the Core files to find the elf ones? Or are they non-race specific?
yatol Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 load tesedit go headpart elfsomething copy paste as overwrite the referenced by elfsomething to x delete npc from the esp copy paste back the npc from x in the esp now there's only the elfs left renumber xxyyyyyy in x to zzyyyyyy load crap kit, generate heads for npc from x (doesn't matter if it fail because you use 2k warpaints or whatever) go to that mod facegendata folder, copy paste in new folder go to x facegendata folder, and copy paste that in the new folder copy paste the new folder in the mod facegendata folder, then delete same for tintmask folder
