RichterQ87 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 So, here we are again. Oh how easily Skyrim breaks. Anyway, I'm tired so I'll make this short. Every time I run FNIS, (even in Administrator mode), it gives me the following error: ERROR(76): Could not find a part of the path 'E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\character assets female\skeleton_female.hkx'. Following said path, the file is very much still there. Apparently I'm the only NMM user with a problem similar to this one. If I try and launch Skyrim despite this, main menu CTD. You all know the one. Here's what I got so far: Possible Fixes: 1. Re-install skeleton and /everything/ that follows, which would be a last resort because it would be a pain because then I'd have to re-install all the mods dependent on that that override it or whatever and I've honestly lost track of which ones they are. 2. Nothing. That's it. Possible Causes: 1. Prior to this I had went through the troublesome process of moving my mod directory and install info to another drive, which after I figured out how to do it didn't give me much trouble other than some stuff with enhanced blood textures telling me it isn't there, but that's fixed. And whenever I re-install a mod it gives me some stuff about how virtual install has already got it, and I just override it. Everything is still there, and everything is as it should be. Why this would have anything to do with the error message I have no clue, but go figure. 2. I installed 3 new mods. Werewolf loot, werewolf perks expanded, and No werewolf form cooldown. No trouble there except werewolf loot told me some files had already been installed by race compatibility, which I just did override to. Thinking this was the problem, I uninstalled and tried it again without overriding. Didn't fix it. srayesmanll Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Just a note: when you say... 1. Re-install skeleton and /everything/ that follows, which would be a last resort because it would be a pain because then I'd have to re-install all the mods dependent on that that override it or whatever and I've honestly lost track of which ones they are. The skeleton should be the very last thing installed (if using NMM). Nothing should be installed after it. And it should overwrite everything. Nothing should override the xpmse skeleton and it's files.

But, instead: Reading DD ERROR(76): Could not find a part of the path 'E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\animations\DD\FNIS_DD_List.txt'. So, looks like /everything/ is screwed. And if that's true, I'd have to re-install everything again. Someone please tell me that isn't the case.

If you moved everything to a different drive you might be correct that that's the issue. I'm sure you already know but Nexus Mod Manager stores your mods in a separate location and edits them from there (In the "Games" folder). So have you changed the install directory of NMM? It might still be installing the files to your old drive.

It might still be installing the files to your old drive. Yes, FNIS_DD_List.txt is still there as well. I haven't changed the install directory of NMM itself, no. I just changed the mod directory and install info over to another drive (the same drive my Skyrim folder is in), and then copy pasted everything over from my old mod directory and install info and everything worked as it should, apart from what's happening now. It's not installing over to the old drive folders, if that's what you're asking. That stuff is totally empty after I cleared it, so it's being installed over to the correct mod directory. However, my NMM is still installed on my old drive, but that shouldn't really be making a difference but it's worth pointing out. If I had to guess, I'd say that the virtual install folder is breaking the game for some reason and I have no idea why or how to fix it.
DickTracy Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Bump. May be an odd thing to ask, but have you deleted the GenerateFnisForUsers.exe from your desktop that is created when you first use FNIS and made another one with the new location of FNIS? Not sure if that would make any difference or not.

Not sure if that would make any difference or not. I run GenerateFNISforUsers straight from the directory, and I've tried re-installing FNIS to no avail. Also, I manually install FNIS because it doesn't work to use NMM.
fore Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 So, here we are again. What type of drive is "E:"? Physical drive, or a shared folder? Network? I just google a bit how this error "Could not find a part of the path" can occur, and came across this possible reason. Some of the (Microsoft) file management calls are not able to deal with shared folders. FNIS is not using that calls in the situation where this error can occur. And the fact that reinstalling the skeleton clears the suspicion that FNIS could be the cause of this error in my opinion. But maybe NMM has had problems installing into such file systems.

I think it has something to do with the "virtual install" folder that NMM creates because each time I re-installed a mod it asked me to overwrite the files already inside that folder. Maybe the virtual install folder, which I copied over from it's earlier location on the "C:" drive along with the mod directory and install info, is still dependent on the old drive, thus making it fail whenever I try and run the game or generate an FNIS patch. I'm thinking that if we could somehow find the correct values inside "regedit" and change which drive it's looking in, we could fix the game. Only, I don't know where I'd look. Anyway, thank you for looking into this, fore. And just for making FNIS in general.

As a follow-up to my previous observation, I went into regedit and looked up Nexus Mod Manager to see if I could find the problem at hand. And I think I might have. Although I changed my mod directory and install info over to the "E:" drive, it seems that install info never went over, and is still stuck on "C:" as can be seen in the following screenshot: So, I don't think there's that much damage I can do if I change it manually through regedit. I've done it before with other things, so this shouldn't be much different and I doubt I can do that much damage to my computer by doing it again with this. Before I throw caution to the wind, can somebody tell me more about "install info". What purpose does it serve? Is it likely that that might well be the problem I'm facing here? Edit: Did a bit of research into "install info". Couldn't find any information about it online, weirdly enough, but I opened up one of the logs and it lists the mods so I'm assuming this is indeed why my game is broken. I guess I'll give editing the value a go and hope for the best.

I noticed that the "mods" path was also wrong and set to "D:" instead of "E:" and corrected that as well, but nothing changed. Maybe there's more values to do with Nexus Mod Manager also set to the false path, I don't know. If this isn't how I fix things then I have no idea. Could really use some ideas right about now.
RichterQ87 Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 I'm pretty sure that this is all has something to do with install info. Maybe it's calling lost values inside the files themselves instead of just looking down the wrong path in regedit. If that's not the case, then I have no idea. I've done everything that comes to mind, apart from re-installing all mods and Skyrim again, because I really shouldn't have to. The files are all there, FNIS and the game itself just isn't finding them for some reason.
RichterQ87 Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 I tried opening FNIS_DD_List.txt and nothing happened, and upon further inspection, it appears that almost everything is 0 KBs. As if all the files are empty for some reason. So more than likely I'll have to re-install everything. Fun fucking times. Even ran loot and it keeps telling me that some .txt files with animation related mods aren't installed. Fuck me, I guess.
