There are of course mods that I personally would consider must haves.. however part of the fun of modding skyrim is discovering them yourself. I have the same graphics card actually although with 2gb VRAM. I tend to use 2K textures for most things, and 4k for body textures. Basically, I recommend adding textures gradually.. don't install 10 texture mods at once, because it will be MUCH harder to determine your hardware limits. Add them one at a time and see how it is in game. If you start experiencing stuttering then remove the last one you added or prioritise. For mod installation, Mod Organiser is king.. it does take a bit of understanding but it is hugely powerful. Nexus Mod Manager is simple to use, but less powerful. Skyrim SE is vastly improved on stability over the original Skyrim (oldrim) so you won't find too many crashes (I have not had a single CTD through multiple playthroughs with 200+ mods installed). There are the odd glitches and quirks with Skyrim SE just like in oldrim however, like quest related issues and so forth. First mod to mention.. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266/? This is an absolute must. Anyway, good luck and enjoy the journey!

Nazzzgul666 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I've never really found anything i'd consider "must have" at the Nexus trending files and even highest ratings overall didn't really draw my attention, Maybe a mistake, i honestly didn't try most of them. I'm not intrested in custom followers which are like 90% over there, at least i feel so. For SE version vs Oldrim: be aware that usually mods don't work on both. There are some few exceptions, and many mods like clothes can afaik easily be ported, but the whole sexlab framework and avery mod depending on it will not work with SE at all (not in the near future at least). Same for several mods on Nexus. I'm not sure if the stability of SE is just due to the fact that scripted mods don't work there, i expect an improvement but i'm also certain the "no crashes ever" will never be mentioned once the script extender for SE is published. So which version of Skyrim you use limits your options maybe, if you have both i'd try Oldrim first. It can look just as good or even better (1 GB for graphic ram is probably a bit low for most enhancements, though), and you have a lot more options for mods you can try. Especially if you want to play adult mods, it's actually a must. The links in my sig are tutorials for modding Oldrim, assuming you use MO as mod manager. You also have a lot more options to break your game, so if you have a save you really want to keep, do yourself a favor and make a backup before starting. Recommendations are hard to make, depends on your taste. Mods i always use are LAL to start new games, especially for testing purposes you really don't want to go through the intro the 36. time in 36 minutes and AddItemMenu to get all kinds of stuff into your inventory without crafting it first or something.
Slorm Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Some things you will need aside from a mod manager (whichever you choose) LOOT which sorts your mods into the correct order https://loot.github.io/ SKSE which is a script extender needed by many mods (Oldrim only, there's no version for SSE as yet, if ever) http://skse.silverlock.org/ SkyUI so you can see MCM menus which are used by many mods http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3863/?
