JobiWanUK Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I've just gone to run Skyrim through MO and I got an error about failing to create the profile modlist and MO wouldn't even load. I managed to get it to open by creating a folder in the profiles folder with the same name, but all my profiles are just gone from the profiles folder. Also a lot of the installed mods have a red x next to them saying 'no game data'. To say I'm gutted doesn't even come close to how I'm feeling. I've spent months tweaking several profiles to get them how I want them, and they've just gone. I have no idea what's caused it, I've not done anything like CCleaner or had any HD errors. I'm also getting an error saying Python isn't installed. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful but it looks like I'll have to start from scratch. I've tried restoring a backup from MO but it says there are no backups.
I'm The Wabbit Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 That happened to me once before. That caused me not to want to play skyrim for while.
worik Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 It sounds like your path settings are not right anymore. It happend to me when I fumbled around with different MO version, but was easy to fix in that case. I suggest you start there and have a look if the configured MO paths still point to skyrim and to MO's mod folders itself.
JobiWanUK Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 Thanks. The paths are correct. I've looked in the actual folder and nothing is there except default. I managed to recover some files with a file recovery programme and they'd definitely been deleted but I haven't deleted them, but for some reason the modlist.txt files still weren't recovered. Something else that I only realised later is that all my saves were in profiles too, so they've all gone. Again I managed to recover some but not the ones for my current playthrough. I do back up my Skyrim folder but haven't done recently. I just have no idea what's caused it. I've tried reinstalling Python too and followed several threads to make it work but that also won't work. And yes, it makes me feel like giving up on Skyrim. Moral of the story - back up everything regularly.
worik Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 ...And yes, it makes me feel like giving up on Skyrim. Moral of the story - back up everything regularly. Don't give up like that. It's still too much fun! I'm into game number 12 or 13 and still never killed Alduin. Note to myself: Find that old USB disk, where the *%$$# was it? Copy the whole shabang to the disk. 2nd note to myself: Do it today!
JobiWanUK Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 I will probably start again, sometimes it can be fun. What's annoying is that there doesn't appear to be a reason why it's happened. I am on Windows 7 64 bit and I'm wondering if a recent update has made MO go wonky. Certainly the Python error seems to suggest that the 32 bit 2.7 no longer works. It's not required but the error message bugs me. What's particularly galling is that I spent ages setting up a default profile. I literally went through 100s of pages on Nexus getting textures and other bits to get the game looking beautiful, with a nice combo of SL mods that worked well together, and now it's gone. The mods are all still there but the load order isn't.
worik Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 hello, after reinstalling MO, is it possible to import an old profile (default) before installing the mods ? IF you have a backup of your old installation you can pretty much recover everything... ranging from all your mods to your loadorder. It all depends on you, IF you have made a backup. I save my load order on a regular base and whenever I update(d) MO, I made a copy of al my mods in the modfolder. So, after my last MO installation ( I experimented a bit between MO1.3.11 and MO2.0.8), I made a simple copy of my modfolder from backup to the MO modfolder and the same with my profile folder (as far as I remember). All went well

worik Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 In that case, you can at least recover your proper load order after you install all the mods .. and you can look up if you forgot one .. Good luck !
