PC expansion slot covers/inserts

Recommended Posts

A while ago i had to move my PC into another case as the GPU i'd purchased wouldn't fit so i went back to another case i'd used in the past which was on the huge size

All's good everything fits

But it doesn't look pretty as somewhere in the dim distance past i lost/threw away the plastic expansion slot covers that came with it

I've tried ebuyer, ebay and amazon and i'm failing to find anything even related to expansion slot covers, anyone know of a website/place i might be able to order them from

You're likely shit out of luck.  Three options:  Find the exact model of case, and see if anyone has some. Covers from other cases generally don't fit as everyone does their own thing.  Slap a drive in there you'll never use to cover up the hole.  Or get a internal multi-card reader or multi-port USB reader and slap it in there to cover it up.  Then you get a reader for all card types, and a USB port on the front.

Sad Pinky :(

Tbh the case had been sitting under the stairs for about a decade at least so i think finding the same model is never going to happen, is a good idea on getting something to fill the top expansion slot. could use a usb slot i suppose although i have plenty on the rear from the motherboard as i didnt bother connecting up the front stuff other than the power button and reset - one of the connectors available on the front is an IDE and i'm struggling to remember what that was for so the 2 USB alongside it must be a very early version

Yeah it's the solution I used for my cooler master e-430 case.  Used to be you needed to have a DVD/bluray drive for something ~5 years ago.  Now with everything having mostly gone digital you don't, and the rare cases I need one I can just hook up an external USB3 device.    The kicker with that case is if you remove a front cover it's a permanent choice you can't put it back in.  Well you can still buy boards that have IDE on them, but I'd guess at least 5-6 years old if not older.

Anyway whatever you pick as a cover for it should be pretty easy to hook up.  Most don't use a "block" design for the onboard connectors anymore rather it's all individual wire connectors because for a few years mobo makers weren't following the PC'97 standards due to a pissing match.  So the on-motherboard add-in ports sometimes had proprietary signal block designs.  Most still have the +5/-5/DV/GND all marked on the motherboard just match it to what's printed on the wires.  Worst case you might have to google for a manual.
