Wrye bash pictorial guide - is no more

'Something Awful' happened

Until Bethesda and valve can successfully moderate and protect against the blatant theft of peoples hard work and dedication, artistic and intellectual property, which aids in the game company's prosperity

I wonder what happened there.

It seems he is mad at the Steamworks which he is right about since it's really just THE retard gathering of the world i mean it's good for Garry's mod 13 (BETA version)

But elder scrolls? no! also now with the in-game Portal 2 editor shit also spawns thinking retards can map!

Posted

IMHO this dude is as much a part of the problem as the knuckleheads he is pissed at. So your mad, fine. But pulling your files and punishing the community is somehow justifiable? What a jerk.

Yes, it is his file and yes, he does have the right to do whatever he likes with it. I am not saying he doesn't have that right. I just think it makes him look like a 3 year old throwing himself on the floor in a massive temper tantrum. How is his behavior "ANY" different than those he is mad at? Truth is it isn't. He just painted himself with the same brush as them and lost any real ability to criticize others.

Sorry for the wall of text, but it is "his" behavior that disturbs me more than the so called knuckleheads of steam works. Those type of people have always been around. If he wanted to quit in protest - fine that is cool. Put to pull his files is just lame.

Sorry for the wall of text.....those were the thoughts of this old fart. :)

Hmm never really talked about his behavior or what i think of him pulling his files but yes that is quite childish! Ofcourse i agree with him that Steamworks is really just a BAD idea i mean Portal 2 for the map editor and for Garry's mod so Garry doesn't have to host all those files that comes in handy but TES?

Not really because i don't really see the point in a downloader instead of just getting off your lazy ass and do it yourself that's how i learned everything!

If someone is new to mods Wrye Bash can be intimidating to learn. Back when I started there was no guide so yea I learned the hard way. I can promise you the guide saved folks a lot of the head ache and heart ache of the mistakes I made while learning to use Wrye.

This whole ordeal is edging closer to me thinking about making my own guide for wrye from scratch and throwing it up on the nexus as a protest to: "silly modders who pull their files in protest of something or other......:P

Especially since what he is complaining about (steamworks) has "nothing" to do with the nexus! So how does punishing nexus users effect steamworks users again??????

Nexus moderators honestly need to just delete the file completely so as to not let this type of thing spread. If he wants to protest...go get a sign and stand outside of Valve/Bethesda's offices or start a blog.

Very confused here. Is this guy complaining that his mods are being uploaded and shared through steamworks without his permission? Who's doing it? Bethesda, valve, or just random people?

Yea i laughed at that too anyway i think iamma search for that if his stuff was reuploaded IF STEAM WASN'T SO SLOW! (rage)

Edit: Errors, Errors everywhere!

No idea it either that or he complaining about the tards on Steamworks.

I have no idea why he is getting so pissed off. He just goes to Steamworks and says it's stolen please remove it and bam it gets done.

It seems that it cannot be that the Steamworks can supply his work since it's a guide and not a actual mod and since mod's and video's are the only thing Steamworks supplies i highly doubt you will find it there!

Okay, so this whole thing started with Arthmoor adding in Oblivion Gates to the latest version of Open Cities. He stuck these giant, ugly Oblivion Gates right in the middle of the cities. Nobody liked this inclusion and asked Arthmoor to remove them or make them optional or something, but he refused saying he wasn't going to compromise his 'artistic vision' for a bunch of whiners. People became belligerent and Arthmoor became even more hardheaded.

Somebody took Open Cities and edited out the Oblivion Gates and released it on Steam Workshop, giving Arthmoor full credit and praise.

Arthmoor flipped out, saying mod pirates stole his mod, and had it banned from Steam Workshop.

Somebody else came along and made their own patch that removed the Oblivion Gates from Open Cities. This patch didn't recreate anything from Open Cities, it didn't redistribute anything from Open Cities, it didn't edit Open Cities, it didn't use anything from Open Cities. It was a completely kosher third party mod that required people to have the original Open Cities installed to even work. It worked by running a script that checked if Open Cities was running, and if it detected it was, it ran a command that simply disabled any Oblivion Gates that may be present. That's it. The mod doesn't even do anything if you don't have Open Cities.

So anyways, Arthmoor caught wind of this and flew into an even more child like rage, literally equating this patching to murder. No, I am not exaggerating. His cries got that mod banned from Steam Workshop as well but a few days later the mod was unbanned after GStaff, the community manager for Bethesda who had banned the mod in the first place, had reevaluated the situation and saw that the third party mod did absolutely nothing wrong.

This, as you can probably guess by now, pissed Arthmoor off even more. On the official forums he was howling for blood, claiming Bethesda is setting a dangerous precedent for mod pirates to distribute viruses (what) and how the patch will crash your game and ruin your save files. He also claimed the forum Something Awful, from which the the patch originated, was a den of pirates and thieves and is a massive warez site.

Something Awful is not a den of pirates or thieves, nor is it a massive warez site. In fact, the publicly viewable rules list make it very clear even the mention of warez is a bannable offense. It is a rule that is strictly enforced (not that it is a problem to begin with, a $10 fee to make an account goes a long way in ensuring rules are followed). On top of all that, numerous game developers and other industry professionals are members of the site and I don't know about you, but I have a hard time believing such people would join a den of pirates and thieves where warez is rampant.

Anyways, Arthmoor has been raging for the last two week or so over this stuff and has been trying to rile up 'veteran modders' into leaving and taking their mods with them to prove just how valuable they are. They don't seem to realize that what they do isn't some arcane endevour in esoteric knowledge and that anybody who cares to and has the time could do what they do.

So it would seem the Wrye Bash picture guide being removed is some sort of protest against Steam Workshop, Bethesda, and Something Awful.

I've been following this whole ordeal from the beginning (it's pretty hilarious) and my personal opinion is that Arthmoor and other modders like him have their heads up their asses. I believe mods should be available for everyone to freely take and edit and redistribute as they wish. I personally mod because I enjoy the process of it, not because I like to pretend to be important on the internet.

This is disgusting behaviour. So fucking childish. It makes me sick. Let this asshole go. He deserves nothing. Losers like him are the problem. The pictorial guide was there to help people and now what has this puke gone and done. He goes self inflicts a wound into the commu8nity hurting everyone. What an asshole. Wins the asshole of the month award. There is no excuse for this behaviour. I for one am happy he is gone. Good riddance. I have his guide if anyone wants it. I am tempted to delete it as it now vibrates at this sub par low frequency. Fuckin jerkoff. Ark!

Ahah! Don't you see!? By being upset at the removal of the guide you are proving just how important and special these modders are! Truly Steam Workshop is the devil and Something Awful is it's prophet!

Actually though, it'd be swell if you could share that guide. I've been spending the morning trying to find a download for it.

Thank goodness I read this post. It has calmed me a bit. I am so pleased to find such people here. This is the second thread that I have found such like minded and agreeable persons. Many blessings.

You are right of course sweetheart. Thank you. I am truly disgusted with the behaviour of some people in this community. The post was written in an state of lost emotional equilibrium. Of course I would share the guide. Let me see if I still have it, and I wiill PM you. Cheers.

Well, now that I have heard the "rest of the story" I can without reservation say that Arthmoor really is a whinny little jerk and so is anyone who follows his lead. Steamworks did the right thing and bless them for doing so!

I just don't understand all of the freaking fuss. So someone makes a patch for something. Does Arthmoor by chance work for bioware or is he related to Hudson or Mac???????? :)
