Grine Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Hey guys how are ya? I had a simple question. How do you feel about people using an existing cell for a new mod. Basically imagine copy pasting vault 111 in another location, stripping it of all its iconic items like the cryogenics and replacing them with other stuff and doing some limited editing to the different rooms so they appear somewhat different. I ask this because after weeks of work I had to scrap my entire work as I realized that no matter what I try I cant seem to make these vault pieces fit like lego pieces. But actually it is more like the lego pieces are always off by a few millimeters. Hence when the character walks through the vault there are gaps within the walls and doors. Well let me know how you feel about re-purposing existing vaults as solution to this problem.
myuhinny Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Using resources is fine as long as it's from the game you will probably have to make new form ID's using resources from other games you better not upload it to the nexus as they will swing their hammer at you as that would fall under the copy write laws.
Guest Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Full copy of files (for the same game) is just fine. Copying cells is fine too, just be sure to avoid any dependency on the original mesh, or when it will be updated you may have some problems.

I think OP wants to make the mod Playstation compatible, hence the use of only original assets. Otherwise, I'd suggest using one of the "build your own vault" mods, which have pieces which actually do fit perfectly together in dimensions. Overhauling the existing locations will probably bring the same problem that creating your own vault has: seams and cracks all over the place. The developers don't use all the junk, clutter and garbage just to "bring the place to life". It's also to cover up faults in their own designs, and removing the trash will bring those faults into view. Other means to cover up those faults are heating pipes, shelves, picture frames, rugs, workstations, you name it.. So the trick is to make rooms a little bit "too large", allowing room for such coverups whille keeping enough space to move around.
Grine Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Hm.. Not exactly but I got my question answered indirectly. Perhaps a moderator can close/delete this thread? Thanks!
