The Companions Crash My Game

[Kumos]

The companions crash my game, either new game or save, if i start in jorrvaskr crash before i load in. The crash is also most promient in whiterun plains when they fight the giant but i have found i can circumvent the crash by coc'ing to the town before i cross a certain threshold.

Do any of the companions have a HDT/TBBP/BBP body or armor? If so check and make sure that their skeleton is compatible with their body and armor. If a person has a HDT/TBBP/BBP body or armor and the skeleton isn't a compatible one it'll cause you to CTD when you enter their cell which could explain why you crash when you get close to them or enter their building.

 

A test that you could try is to go into game and load you save file and then bring up the console with the ~ key and type in help Aela then type in player.placeate Alela's ID number then hit enter. If the game crashes the you will know if it doesn't repeat again for the other female companion. If no crash happens then try the male companions.

 

Note do not save while using the player.placeatme  console command as it will cause save bloat each time you use it.

Ria is causing the crashes, so do i need to manually replace the skeleton or what?

Is she vanilla or is she a replacer if she is a replacer make sure the skeleton and body are compatible. If she is just plain vanilla then I don't think it wouldn't be a skeleton issue because everyone would have that problem. It could be something she is wearing. Try turning off all mods that add clothing to the game and see she still causes the game to crash.

Discovered the issue, I love Cleavage has some bad outfits that make the game crash when worn, like the elven light super skimpy and one of the hide armors and of the imperial armors seem to make the game crash. Mod author should fix it would be nice!

Well now that you know the culprit and the outfits causing it for the time being till they get fixed you could fix them yourself. All you need is nifskope for most of it. Load up one of the body nifs for the body you are using and then load up one of the ones that are causing you to crash. Cross reference between the 2 nfiskopes at what all bone nodes are in each one. Chances are the ones that are causing the game to crash are missing a bone node in them or the body you are using is missing a bone node.

 

This part you will need outfit studio found on the nexus. If the outfits are missing a bone node all you need to do is load outfit studio up and select new project - select UNP HDT - hit next and select - browse mesh - drop the nifs into that folder and select the _0 nif and hit finish. This will load the _0 nif into outfit studio next click the outfit parts and then click the bone tab hold down CTRL and select the bone nodes that are missing. Click shape - copy selected weights - shape - transfer selected weights. This will transfer the bone nodes you selected to the outfit. Next click file - export and it'll export the new file for you repeat for the _1 nif file. Just drag and drop them on top of the old ones.

 

Next hit file - export to export the nif and repeat for other nif.
