Z0mBieP00Nani Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Knowing next to nothing about computers, I decided to go out and get a new TV to replace the 9 year old 40" plasma screen TV that I had been using as a monitor. My computer is about 4 years old, has 8 gigs of ram (if memory serves), a graphics card that provides 4 gigs of v-ram (I'm using an Nvidia GTX 760 graphics card to be more specific), and I have a quad core processor. The new TV/monitor in question displays in 4K (the resolution is 3840x2160). I guess what I'm asking is, how fucked is my wallet if I want this to work without a whopping 12 frames per second inside the Riverwood Trader and terrible stuttering? Or is it even possible to mess with the settings in such a way as to at least make the game playable again?
Angves Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I guess you can change your native resolution in Windows and do the same with Skyrim. Instead of 3840x2160, 2538x1080, to say a number.
RedMonika Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 The higher resolution will affect your FPS. Try reducing it.
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 I guess you can change your native resolution in Windows and do the same with Skyrim. Instead of 3840x2160, 2538x1080, to say a number. Now that I just got back home from the holidays, I was able to try this, and it's the same story. I didn't even load up a save, as I could clearly see stuttering whenever the menus moved across the screen (something that wasn't present, or at least wasn't noticeable before). If i bring the resolution all the way back down to where I had it before (1280x720) it zooms way in, and the edges get cut off (also I think there is still stuttering and a bad frame rate, but I don't know for sure as I saw no point in attempting to play the game in that state). It's looking like I'm going to have to upgrade my system. What would I need to look into to get this to work?
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 I went back and tried to play it at the suggested number, and for some reason it consistently crashes before it can load the save. Smaller resolutions offer better performance frame rate wise, but then the game looks terrible from a shadow/color standpoint, and there is a large black border around the entire thing.
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 Ok, after some more frustration and harsh language, I finally managed to get things working close to the way they were before. I was able to get the resolution down to 1920x1080, and my game is now running at around 35 - 55 frames inside of the Riverwood Trader. There is still some stuttering, but it's manageable. Just wanted to update this topic.
