MsOtaku Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Just curious, is anyone using the final version of Optimized Vanilla Textures? I've had the version before the final and have been really hesitant to download this version. It seems so odd to have Part 1 and Part 2, plus three other zip files to install and all in a specific order. Feels like a waste of load order space and possible complications if one does something wrong during installation. If any of you have the final version, is there that much of a difference than the previous one?
aim4it Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I use http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9957/?
MsOtaku Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 I appreciate the suggestion but, the texture packs and with the ENB I'm using it's highly recommended that I don't use the Hi-Res DLC.
PubliusNV Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I'd been using the STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures mod until I saw your post. I downloaded the 2 files I needed and installed via MO (so I was able to skip a step or two for other mod manager users) and I see a distinct improvement in quality with no apparent performance hit. Now I think your question was directed at users of previous versions, so I'm not the person you were looking to answer your post, but I want to thank you for bringing this mod to my attention.

No problem. Was the installation tricky at all? Because it looks like it is.
PubliusNV Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 With Mod Organizer, I installed the High Definition Base Game Textures for Everyone (Part 1 of 2) file like I would any mod. I then downloaded the High Definition DLC Textures for Mod Organizer Users (Part 2 of 2), extracted it into a temp folder, and found three files in it, one for each DLC (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) and installed them via MO. I then followed the supplied instructions and moved them in the left pane of MO to match the example provided. Unchecked the old mods I was using, made sure the BSAs were all being managed by MO in the archives tab, and I was ready to go.
MsOtaku Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 Thanks for that info. I do have them downloaded, I had to install the first one manually because MO kept freezing during the download, and I read the readme.txt and looked at the provided picture. However, I have the "clean" master files that I cleaned with TES5Edit exactly in the spots where the mod author shows where his textures should be. That's the only real part I'm confused/concerned about.
PubliusNV Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Like you, I followed the STEP guide and have cleaned master files. I originally placed the new files as shown in the provided picture, below the Unmanaged: Dawnguard, etc, but above the cleaned .esm files. And it seemed to work ok. Now, after I saw your post, I've moved the new files below the .esm files so that they now look like this: Unmanaged: Dawnguard Unmanaged: HearthFires Unmanaged: Dragonborn Cleaned Update.esm High Definition Base Game Textures for Everyone (Part 1 of 2) Cleaned Dawnguard.esm Optimized Dawnguard Textures - HD Cleaned HearthFires.esm Optimized HearthFires Textures - HD Cleaned Dragonborn.esm Optimized Dragonborn Textures - HD And again, I've played for a while and haven't seen anything wrong. So I'm not sure if the esm files have anything in them that would override the textures, but then I'm not a modder and have never looked into what goes into an esp or esm.
MsOtaku Posted November 24, 2016 Author Posted November 24, 2016 This is very helpful! Thank you so much! xoxo
