Worst faction ever

I have been playing Fallout 4 since it came out and have noticed one thing that really bugs me,the minutemen. They are completely useless, you save one settlement and now three more need help, you say hey Preston I saved this settlement and cleared the way for another and you get that's great,as  usual i have something else for you. Then if you do somehow make it through without killing the useless prick and mange to get all the settlements they still need you to hold their damn hand against feral ghouls really?I have at least a 300+ defense rating at all settlements and they still can't defend themselves, and where the hell are the minutemen? If they are the saviors of the commonwealth then why the hell do I have to run back to a settlement why can't they do something anything to help. After you complete the game if you use the minutemen to fight the institute then you still have to help them with everything.I have looked everywhere and even though there are a few mods out there that change little things about them they are still the most useless faction ever. Will someone please make a mod to kill them all or at least make them useful.Ok now that I got that off my chest what do you guys and gals think.

Just about every faction is like this and it sucks. For me the worst faction ever is the railroad because no matter what I do there is no way to avoid wiping them out if you play as pro BoS and avoid their quest to destroy BoS either. I really don't see them as useful if I destroy the institute but what if the player takes over the institute? Shouldn't the railroad stand down or offer to help? I guess this is kind of offset by the shitty dialogue from deacon so you don't mind killing him so much or them after the end game but the radiant quest thing sucks ass. It would be better if after you go the castle up and running that the minute men built the other bases by themselves they just needed you to clear out the area and report back to preston then would take it from there. Go back to that cleared out base in a few days and see it completely built up and if you don't like something change it yourself that would be a great mod lol.

The radiant quests are useful to a point when impressing followers so they give you their perks but after that you shouldn't get those dam quests anymore. I guess it would be better if say you go to a settlement then an attack has a chance of occurring and you just help repel it and gain only the xp from your kills no quest objective or anything like that. What we need is a major war mod on a big dam battlefield so we can use all these kick ass gun mods and just mow down waves and waves of super mutants and enclave etc.

All beth games have these shitty radiant quests if beth makes more games you can expect their crap formula to stay the same.

I agree if you take over the institute then yeah the railroad should back you up, it would be the ultimate win win.I hate the way that beth makes you choose just one faction railroad, bos or the institute.I mean if you are already a member of all factions they should of given you a speech check to get all of them to back down and support your player, then no one has to die,and everyone can benefit from you taking over

I think originally the player was supposed to confront maxxon and take over the BoS so it was probably supposed to be more unified at the end but they scrapped that ending and left parts of it in the game files from what we know of thanks to the unofficial patch team.

I think that's what we all want to know my friend

Minutemen being the "middle ground" with the least enemy factions after the institute is killed is relaxing. But they are totally useless, come to think of it other factions are useless too, the difference is the minutemen are annoying with constant radiant quests that are completely stupid, at what time in the game did you see super mutants only "harass" humanoids? Do go for the kill. But minutemen settlements get harassed by mutants from across the map... True words from Sips_ "2 ppl in a shack on a hill getting harassed by raiders from far away??? Just move, I refuse to help you"

BoS - Why do I have to loot when they send scribes for such things? Where is the feeling of "being in the army and they got my back"

Institute - As their director I have absolutely no use of them, the place is initially nice but after the first time you've seen it it's boring and not customizable

Railroad - Toaster loving wannabe spy faction with convoluted main mission path, at least they might be excused for not helping with day 2 day stuff since they seem to rely on one man missions most of the time, oh and a nice 10mm gun :-D

There is some mod around that disables radiant quests, it made the Minutemen much more bearable to me. Instead constantly being sent around the place, it became a "hey, if you like building settlements, then this is the faction for you, no strings attached" faction.

Well, if you don't want to play the useful idiot for one or more of the factions in their selfish struggle for power in game, there is just one way to do it.

As you can see, all three end quests are in line and active, untouched though. The deadlock situation hasn't changed since early spring, not w/o an alternative ending. The protagonist's son will thus die an endless death, the cute little Institute boy with kill-switch my avatar visibly loves so much she can't take with her, unfortunately. So I gave her Kate (above), an orphan from Cambridge, as adopted surrogate child, the perhaps somewhat helpless compensation for her brutal loss as a loving mother. However, as any furious lioness on the attack she just needed a cooling.

As to the minutemen. They serve no purpose in the Commonwealth whatsoever (always to come a few minutes too late is none), and that goes for their radiant quests in an endless loop as well. Consequently I have sent Preston into the cornfields of The Castle to stfu, and a good farmer he is, indeed. Maybe that is his true destiny.

I haven't play any BoS quest yet, but seems like their Vertibird is pretty useless.

Can't say I blame you and yeah I think the only thing he is good for is farming

Haven't tried it but,I think the thing is that they are still useless.I mean yeah less quests from them is good but they still can't do anything on their own.I mean why can't they be bothered to go and help anyone other then waiting for you to do it for them while they take the credit

You pretty much got it all right,no faction in the game is worth a damn,It's all my way or the highway option. As the main deciding factor in the game I fell the pc should have more options, like maybe the hell with all of you I'm taking strong or piper and we are gonna wipe all of you out.Now that would be awesome and pretty sure strong would really like that

This is the fundamental flaw with their writing this faction crap. We want a good story and we want many different starts not just that one same start every dam time. the map needs to be HUGE and other lands should be available (probably as DLC ugh...) and the many different starts can all lead to the same major plot lines just at different places in the plot depending on each start. We don't want to be the leader of anything, joining the BoS or minutemen should be an option and you get a rank etc but becoming the leader sucks let some npc do that boring crap. Radiant quests can just die, have encounter zones and some npc tells you they spotted some supermutants heading for that place you cleared out before go kill them etc. The endings can be based on eliminating one side or another but the writing for each side has to not suck. The writing for the synths makes no sense at all, what kind of institute just throws synths away or sends them out to aggro everyone? Eyebots could find anything and everything since they don't have to worry about walking or climbing just float everywhere and could get into just about any pre war ruin.

A much better idea for the synths would have been that the humans who created the synths were killed off and chased away by the gen 3 synths after some time and there is some old exiled faction of institute scientists hiding out somewhere so virgil could be the leader of that group. The gen 3s are the jerks sending out older models to harass humanity and find things they need etc. Then we could have the gen 3s that didn't agree with that shit and left which the railroad is helping to escape. The story would go that helping the railroad leads to virgil and the other exiles and more plot info about the institute and what happened to shaun. The whole thing with shaun and the player spouse could be that the institute took both of them and thought you died. They lived out their lives in the institute and the spouse passed away while shaun grew up and became the director but had to escape with the other exiles when the gen 3s revolted. You find him with the other exiles somewhere and he has augments because of the years of surviving in the wasteland and terrible things happened blah blah whatever. Shaun and the others have an idea to help people in the wasteland survive with advanced medical and augment tech like gen 3 parts that can merge with people for those who have lost limbs etc like whatshername on the prydwen stuck in that PA frame.

By supporting the exiles you help them and the railroad to destroy the gen 3 infested institute and change the minds of the BoS somewhat to accept this advanced medical tech and the exiles ideas who decide to help the BoS to improve the commonwealth and help settlements and blah blah. This shit is so easy to think of but the opposite is some terrible plot to help the wacko gen 3s take over the commonwealth like the whole dawnguard plot which sucks.

We can have factions just don't make them suck with bad writing and political agenda crap and get rid of radiant shit replace it with encounter zones and sightings which make more sense. You can even stumble upon the group of enemies migrating to the place you cleared out before and get them before they can settle in. If they settle in then the whole place is worse than before. Some areas should be clear of enemies after a while if you helped certain factions like the MM or BoS as they would be holding an area or you helped a settlement get started and now they are big and have their own forces etc. so they can hold an area on their own. Some areas will always have enemies like glowing sea and some other areas.

Some things I thought of later, the main start of course would be as it is now only with my ideas from earlier but the alternate starts would be where you don't have to be the leader of anything. One start could be in the same vault but in that other cryo room as another resident of sanctuary hills and another start could be from vault 81 and another from some settlement that got raided just as you woke up one morning to find everyone fighting with a group of raiders and if you don't kill the raiders you die and have to start again. One idea I had was to start as an astronaut that was left on a space station by vault tec in stasis and you wake up to find the earth destroyed from war so we can see just how bad it really was. Access some vault tec computer that tells you the whole sad story and then discover the resources needed to keep the station going have run out and you have to evacuate soon so you follow some emergency plan to get into some escape capsule lander thing then it lands you in the commonwealth or maybe in the ocean near a wrecked but still working boat stuck on an island somewhere. You take the boat to the commonwealth as some dialogue choice like, " I can see land that way it must be the east coast" or whatever. You could arrive at a different point in time at the plot like after BoS showed up or whatever.

Another start could have been introduced as the opening for mothership zeta DLC where you wake up as some lab experiment on the alien mothership and do the whole story there to escape and find all the kewl stuff in that DLC BEFORE you even get to the commonwealth:-)

Another start could be you start out at nuka world as a slave and fight for your freedom etc. and other starts could get really wacky like that mod I saw somewhere for starting out as a robot say an assaultron:-) Of course the different dialogue recording requirements for stuff like this would have put garrus and belethor in the voice over artists special boohoos hospital for working so much but hey if they are getting paid just go to work right? So many starts could have been part of a justification of taking all those years to make fallout 4 but I don't think they took almost a decade to make this game more like two or three years tops.

One thing that bugs me really bad about video game developers is why they do so little with their games other than just get it out the door. I am sure that a major time waster is all the m$ programming bullshit problems they have to deal with while working, all the bugs in things like dot net framework and all that other dev stuff but it can't be a 100% time sink more like a major hurdle every time they make something. Game engines change and development process changes for each game because of what software and features are available at the time they started but it seems strange they have the worst writing of any game in a long time and that is the norm in the industry these days just write shitty stories who cares blah blah we just want money get it out the door. Well if they just want money there are MANY ways to get lots of money like run scams on wall st or bribe politicians or hell just get into a political office of any kind because govt employees don't have to pay taxes on their wall st activities so they can get elected then cash out afterwards and just sit there for four years and twittle their thumbs or take bribes for stuff and get more money. Why do they make things so complicated trying to make a crap game and get it out the door in 18 months?

So many other ways to just get money blah blah I don't believe for a second they enjoy making games it is all about the process of making money getting that game out the door. They know how to do that so they do it but there are more simple ways to get lots of money for those rich devs I just don't understand it.

If they truly enjoyed making games they would not keep dropping the ball  and leaving the games and the fans hanging like they have.If not for the modders out there taking the time to make us great mods to make these games better then we would be left with a big steaming pile of crap. The main dev of games such as beth, bio ware and e.a all only care about one thing and that's how fast can we push this game out to make another couple million, they don't seem to care that for every good game they put out they put 10 out that suck ass
