zippy57 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I am unclear as to when this problem actually began, as most of my recent work has been with interiors, but suddenly I can't load many exterior cells in the GECK as they cause the GECK to crash while loading. I have tried with a fresh installation of both FNV and the GECK, with and without NVSE, with and without MO, with .ini files wiped, and even with Windows booted into Safe Mode. The issue is predictable; any specific exterior cell that crashes the GECK does so every time. I have been able to load exterior cells on this same machine just fine in the past, although it has been a while since I have actually done so. A separate computer running the same version of Windows does not experience this issue.
jaam Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Which OS ? Can you try the FO3 GECK? Last weekend I found out I suddenly could not load the TTW fallout3 without a crash and both FO3 and FNV Geck (vanilla) are acting up, which wasn't the case last time I tried.
zippy57 Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 I'm on Win10 at the moment. As I mentioned, I have a laptop that also runs Win10 and is not experiencing the issue. As far as I am aware they are both on the same update version. I cannot run the FO3 GECK. It's actually even worse, I can't load anything interior or exterior. It all causes a crash, but it does provide an error message: Assert File: c:\_Fallout3\Platforms\Common\Code\BSShader\BSShaderManager.cpp Line: 1996After seeing something about shaders I double-checked my video drivers and they are up-to-date. Possibly relevant is that the computer the issue is occurring on has an nVidia card while the laptop that works fine is an AMD card. Also: I cannot actually play either FO3 or FNV, apparently. Both games seem to crash as soon as the load screen ends.
kyods Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 It's a known issue with the most recent nVidia drivers. Roll back to the latest pre-Anniversary Disaster version, the problem will go away.
zippy57 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Thank you. Do you by chance know what version number that would be? After seeing your post I looked into this on the nVidia forums and noticed people saying it's "still" not fixed, so I can't just roll back to the last one, it's at least two versions back.
kyods Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I'm at work right now, so I can't check the version installed on my desktop - try 368.81, these should do the trick.
zippy57 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Rolling back the drivers allowed me to launch the games themselves again, but the GECK is still crashing.
kyods Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Can't help you much with that, I'm afraid. I have the TTW installation of F3/NV and GECK, and both work fine for me with older drivers.
Guest Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Did you patch it with LAA? it's pretty much a must to work on exteriors. You'll still crash from time to time, but very less compared to before.
zippy57 Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 I don't think I've ever had the GECK made LAA before, but I just did it regardless and it's still crashing.
