Left side of MO

This isn't so much a 'my game isn't working' post, more of a 'prevent future issues' post. Basically I've been playing skyrim relatively fine for ages, couple of hiccups and the odd CTD which I kind of expected, but with the recent update to captured dreams that required a new save I took the chance to delete some old mods and add some new ones in and just wanted to run things past someone here to make sure I've got it all in line. My main question was regarding the left hand side of Mod Organiser, since I've pretty much always just had it in alphabetical order, using LOOT to organise the actual load order on the right hand side, and since things had been working I'd not touched things. But I recently saw someone mentioning that all the lightning bolts mean that things are overwriting each other and that actually does matter. So if anyone could glance over these settings and say if I need to adjust anything, that would be mighty good of you!

The left side of MO is called the 'Priority Queue'. It shows which of your mods get loaded first and which gets loaded last. A lightning bolt does indeed mean that something is overwriting or is overwritten by another mod. A lightning bolt with a plus means that the mod is overwriting another file. A lightning bolt with a minus means that the mod is being overwritten by something. A lightning bolt with both a plus and a minus means that parts of the mod are being overwritten by another and overwriting another part.

Double clicking the lightning bolt and going to 'conflicts' will give you a list of what the mod is overwriting (Top) and what it is being overwritten by (Bottom.)

It looks like your priority queue is in this pseudo-alphabetic format, which is bad practice. In your case you should have SL Framework above all other sex mods and Sexlab Aroused at the bottom. Skeletons should be at the very bottom to prevent it being overwritten by anything else.

In Mod Organizer, the left window specify the priority of the files.

The right window the priority of the mods (esp/esm.)

Thanks for the replies. As for working out the best order for the priority queue, should I just go to all the relevant mod pages and look for info in the main post for each mod?

A lot of people won't actually give what's best for priority queues because it's really dependant on what mods you have. Some mods do, some don't. It's just a good idea to get an idea of what's best at the top and what's best at the bottom. The things in the middle might require a little bit of fiddling but all in all they're probably good where they are.

I just noticed in error. I said that Sexlab Aroused should be at the bottom of the priority queue. This isn't the case, what I should have said is that SL Aroused should be BELOW SL Framework, not at the bottom.

Thanks for the update, though since Aroused doesn't seem to have any overwrites, am I correct in thinking that its position in the priority queue doesn't matter?

I believe that there are some mods that can alter certain settings with Aroused so putting at the top and allowing it to be overwritten may be best.

I just put them up there cus SL and SL:A are the 2 mods that are pretty much required in everything and it's easier to access there if anything goes wrong

After that you might want to put ZAZ and Devious Devices

Cheers. While you're here, this playthrough I'm getting issues with head and body textures:

I wasn't getting this before so I assume it's something to do with one of the newer mods I installed, but I'm not sure what. Texture wise, I was fine running around, and even doing a couple of sex acts just to test that everything was working out, but then on the third this happened. Just restarted to get a pic of the normal colour, and looking closer, I can see a seam around the neck:

Though it's nowhere as obvious as the first pic. CBBE is dealing with the bodies, so I guess there's something else that's somehow overriding my heads?

(Just shout if I should make a new thread instead of turning this one into a secondary issue!)

The queue determine which file (texture, mesh for most) will be the winner if there is mod sharing the same file. You can use it to change the texture of the body erasing the one provided by your body mod for example.

To determine you need to know what each mod provide. The step guide give the order for their mod. Sometime the autor tell you and sometimes you need to guess. MO tell you when a mod overwrite file of another mod with coloring line above there name and symbol '-' for looser and '+' for the winner, so you can use that to check if it's what you want.

When you ignore if it's a good thing, you can try to ask to the author what is the order for the mod loosing or winning (it's for each case, one mod will overwrite some other mod, another mod will overwrite other mod, you need to provide the list for each case to the corresponding author).

To answer your OP question a bit to prevent further problems:

red line means "something overwrites me"

green + means "I'm overwriting something"

a grey bolt means "all files here are overwritten, you can delete me", although i had one case were MO was wrong in that point and both were necessary. But usually that works fine. You can click those things, go to "Conflicts" and you see which mod overwrites which files of which other mod, files aren't that interesting, but if you have problems it might help to know that it's overwritten and by which mod, so you can put them in another order.

That alphabetical works fine is pretty much by accident, you don't have many problematic mods there, though. One general thing is the skeleton, you shouldn't let any other mod overwrite it, maybe except it says explicitly so. But it starts with an X and is quite far down, so you were lucky. :)

Sometimes MO will also tell you if there's a problem, usually after Loot changed things on the right side and there's a possible conflict between left<>right and which mod overwrites what. MOs reorder is, well... it happens that it does things properly, but double check that the new order on the left side is reasonable. And when it doesn't see a conflict, it doesn't mean everything is alright. ;)

Most often you don't need special knowledge do sort things there. For example, a patch for a mod should be after the mod itself, that's easy to see and guess. :)

that's the gray face bug. definitely google that. here

Thanks, I thought it may be that but all references I've found for the grey face bug talk about it affecting NPCs and all the fixes thus relate to them, but this is affecting my player character and no NPCs that I've seen.

Such is life, the problem was with a mod. Specifically Sexlab Hormones. Was going to the menus for all the new addons, and that changes the PCs skin tone, but apparently not the head. So I just disabled the whole recolour option and all is good.

Thanks again for all the time you guys spent helping me, much appreciated!

You could still use SL Hormones and the skin tone you want by having the skin/mesh below SL Hormones so it gets overwritten by the textures you want.
