ZepD Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I hear the remaster is using 64bit and same engine as FO4? Would this mean easier port/creation of skyrim mods, or at least some kind of renewed interest in modding FO4 which seems to be a bit slow right now?
DexesTTP Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Actually, I think it will be the other way around ; Skyrim:SE will benefit from the progress made in the FO4 modding scene, notably for the Nif and Havok stuff and probably for the SKSE team too. However, the modding scene seemingly "slowing down" for FO4 isn't really happening. The Fallout modding scene probably will never get to the Skyrim one - the game just isn't remotely as "good" to mod. However, a lot (and I mean a lot like a dozen big projects and a thousand smaller ones) of good stuff is still going to happen for Fallout 4 regardless of the Skyrim:SE release. About the mod porting, my guess is that most people will be too busy porting their own mods from Skyrim to SE to care about FO4 at first. Then, by the time all the porting and all the usual rewriting each patch is done, there will be stuff just as good made for FO4 already.
garg Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Well if they don't add the wetness effect and the rain occlusion to Skyrim then I'm not interested anyway, it's sort of getting tediously boring Skyrim is! Doubt if Skyrim SE will benefit Fallout 4 at all! There's not much left to be modded in Skyrim is there?
Frel Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 My bet is that at least at first the benefit would be more the other way around. Knowledge gathered from Fallout 4 will ease the port of Skyrim mods to the new version. It may eventually balance out, if as we suspect, skyrim SE is mostly a port of skyrim on Fallout 4 engine, that means that now 2 groups of modders will figure out the intricacy of this new engine (I know the engine is just an evolution of Skyrim one but it is still different nonetheless) even with overlap, 2 teams go faster than one.
garg Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I don't believe Bethesda will break any current mods for Skyrim with the SE release. I believe it will just be a graphical enhancement! It would be a major job for them the change things like scripting, physics etc, they would almost have to rebuild the game from scratch = not going to happen.

If they want to go 64 bits (and they announced that they want to) that means that all the file contents that were 32 bits have to be actualized to match the new format. As far as I know, this doesn't concern the .esp/.esm files, .pex files nor the .nif files - they should work the same. Maybe at most the files will need to go through an automatic converter, converter they will give us - they would lose too much not to do it. However, this means that all the HKX files (animations, skeletons, behaviors) have to be updated. Maybe they'll release a converter for that too, but most probably not given how they couldn't do it in FO4. SKSE will for sure need to be updated too, as well as HDT and probably FNIS.
