Ark of Truth Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 The limit for any Bethesda game plugin wise is 254 plugins. There is no way to extend this limit due to the fact that is the max amount the game engine can handle. You could try merging some mods, like armour mods, weapon mods together which will give you some plugin space back.
srayesmanll Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Also each dlc counts against that limit as well. Plus the Update.esm also counts. So a legal (and updated) copy of Skyrim (Skyrim + Update) actually starts at 253 available slots. With all the 3 dlc, now down to 250.

Prometeus5879 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Technical reason is because mods are identified by the first two numbers (hex) in the load order. And Hex 00 -> FF happens to be 256. The engine might even be able to handle more, but it's limited by that design.
