Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on anime, because there are good animes, but how the hell can you turn Dragon Age, a WESTERN RPG into an anime!? I don't get it! I loved the original look of Dragon Age. Origins was an excellent game. The style and feel felt so classic and epic. It ranks just below fantasy worlds like the Lord of the Rings. Also, the story was extremely epic and engaging. Origins proved that the epic evil invasions make for the best and most epic stories in any fantasy games. To scratch that and recreate the entire franchise is ridiculous. If Dragon Age 3 looks like Dawn of the Seeker, I'm not touching a Bioware game or EA game again. On top of this, the main Character is CASSANDRA FROM DRAGON AGE 2! Of all the characters you chose Cassandra?! She was a terrible character! Why!? Anyways, what are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree? Discuss.
thesapien Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Can't say I've much liked any of their artistic directions. Loved DA:O and even DA2. But not the visual art. I didn't like the live action episodes either because they looked like low budge tv. Well, they were okay, but I didn't love them visually. This trailer just didn't have anything gripping. Cassandra filled her role well in DA2, but it does seem odd to have her as the main character because she lacks a sense of humor that is central to DA and its main characters. I wouldn't worry about it taking over the artistic direction yet. The live action series didn't get me worried. Did you see this clip from it? [video=youtube] Interesting. The writing is not impressive. The fighting is like the cuts scenes in DA where you're scratching your head wondering why they completely throw all the combat stuff out the window. At least the live action version tried to be true to the DA combat. It sure was brutal and bloody though. Kind of liked it when Casandra just went medieval and wouldn't stop slashing even on the dead until her leader stopped her. She's a killer, for sure!

I don't think a single templar died in that battle which makes it unfair and ridiculous. The slaughtering itself wasn't too bad, but it just doesn't make sense. And why was she slashing that guy into bits? I don't see the point in her motives. I don't get the other guy's motives either. And was that a dragon without wings? A drake? Drakes aren't that big, and if the wings were cut off then I didn't see any evidence of that. How Cassandra just jumped onto its back and killed it with one stab is beyond me. And at any rate she was a very weird choice for a main character. The only good thing that I can say about this movie is that it isn't a real life render of the games. That would be absolutely horrible *shudders*

Come to think of it, normally in the games blood mages often overpower even Templars unless there are some bad ass Templars in there. Even a nube blood mage is very powerful before training. Motives? Well, it was just a clip. But, yeah, there'd better be some strong backstory to that kind of personal rage. She did take out the drake with one stab, tho didn't kill it until the finishing blow, lol. Maybe, as the blood mage said, she comes from a dragon hunting clan that knows their weakest spots, like maybe an artery behind the ears? Guessing here. It did already seem weak and injured. Never breathed any fire either. Just a drake, like you said. Ugly one, too. "Real life render of the games"? You mean live-action? Like: [video=youtube] Episode 6 was surprisingly good. Anyway, at least this live action version is true to form for the most part. The same humor is there. Same classes. Lots of the same combat and combos. You even get to see cross class party combos.

Kudos for writing and starring in her mini episodes. And since she wrote it, well, I love a girl with a good sense of humor, and some parts are quite funny.

Really, the first ME??? It was okay to me, but only after playing ME2 first. Then I could go back and finish it for the background story. DA:O was wonderful and got me back into gaming after a year or two of no gaming. But after DA2 introduced a speaking female character (hated the male actor), something felt missing when going back to DA:O and it wasn't the same. I'm also still playing ME3 because there's not much else I'd rather play. So my big question is: Compared to what? You say these games are awful but compared to what else? What games have been so much better by other devs?

Just my 2cs. I think the distinction is fading. Kind of like when fighting styles came from China and Japan and were introduced to the West in the '70's. Now, we no longer see such fighting as Eastern. The Last Airbender was an American animation that I once thought was Eastern. That said, the exact style used in this isn't my favorite, East or West. But for being straight to DVD/BlueRay, I wouldn't call it awful. Not yet before seeing it. At least it doesn't look like Simpsons or South Park or Family Guy or Bugs Bunny or Batman or any number of Western cartoons.

Why they chose to make a film based on a minor character that no one knows nothing about and hardly cares for that appeared on a game that was lacking as is AND in CGI Anime whatchamafuck...no clue in hell. There has to be a reason its being released straight to DVD though. Probably cos they know they've created a train wreck. DA franchise:
