How do you make companions wear specific outfits?

I give my companions an outfit I want them to wear, but they continue to wear their original clothes.  How can I get a specific clothing item equipped by my companions?

Highlight the item in your companion's inventory and press "T".

I use mad companionship mod which can be used to make them wear stuff and other things. You could also try the console to remove their items. Click the ~ key then click on your companion/follower and type in removeallitems this will remove all items in their inventory. This works unless the author added the armor/outfit to their body mesh nif so to fix it you will either have to remove the outfit from the nif but if the body under the outfit has missing mesh then you will have to replace the body files instead.
