Tefajo Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Question to native english speakers  I started studying english when i was 10 and stopped when i was 17. Since then, many years passed and my only practice are game forums, online games and some random trips / foreign tourist encounters. As you can imagine, you get out of practice, you start doing mistakes, you hesitate constantly how to write a certain word or  certain expression, etc The thing is I found myself several times using the word "overwrited", like "make sure XPMSE is not overwrited" and i could swear i saw other ppl doing the same thing!. But i am pretty sure i just made that word up, didnt i? I mean, since is write / wrote /written then its supposed to be overwrite / overwrote / overwritten, am i right? Or is "overwrited" correct because its considered a completely different verb from "write" ?   Yes, i know i can google, but i want to practice dammit!
Stevierage Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 It would be 'make sure XPMSE is not overwritten' Â Overwrited is not an English word.
jfraser Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Your English is remarkable considering your limited usage. As the other two said, your instincts were correct: "overwritten" is the proper word.
Guest Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 "overwritten" is the correct spelling. Â But consider that this forum has members from all around the world, and not everybody has a good level of English. So errors are common.
Thomas34 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Agree with jfraser. Your English is very good. Thumps up.  I´m Danish myself, so my English isn't perfect as well.  Thomas  Â
Tefajo Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Well, thank you all for the practice, the spelling correction and the nice comments
jfraser Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 There are enough grammar sticklers here that you could ask someone to correct everything you write. That wouldn't get annoying for you at all! XD
Slorm Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Agree very much with jfraser your English is extremely good
