Why is my avatar keep getting deleted?

Recommended Posts

Because it broke the forum rules. Ashal has the right to remove it without telling you.

http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=596&highlight=rules

Rule number 4: Forum signatures can be no larger than 250 pixels high and 600px wide, contain no affiliate links, must be a static non animated image (can be anything but GIF Images), and cannot be "overly" pornographic.

Rule number 5: No nudity or other overly graphic content may be visible in user avatars.

User are required to keep up to date with the rules everytime they are updated.

LoversLab is trying to get some new members so we are trying to appeal to different users, it was decided that the avatar may be causing some concern for people wanting to register.

A toggleable option to make avatars/sigs invisible might be a possible solution so that the site is more "safe for work".

Ultimately, I fail to see the reason behind this new rule considering that this is a site that openly accepts and hosts mods and games that are very explicit and "taboo" to many people (others might even find some of the content here to be offensive such as rape, bestiality, and bondage).

Although I have much respect for the excellent job that Ashal does at running the site, and that I don't see any giant downsides to censoring avatars, I just feel that it isn't necessary. I'm sure Ashal is only doing what he believes is best for this great community.

I just hope that this won't ever lead to the censoring of other material on this site, like what happened at Wolflore...

Um, we allready have that to a small extent.

While its true that that content is here most of it is supposed to be hidden and inaccessible unless you are a member. Avatars on the other hand can be seen by anyone and every who happens to be here. Ashal is probably working on the basis of:

1 if you are a member you must be 18+

2: if you are a member you read the terms and conditions and are aware that this IS an adult community and therefore you may encounter "abnormal content"

3: knowing #2 you still signed up means you are Ok with that

So, its fine if a member can get into and open spoilers that have images of a woman getting gangraped by dogs and goblins, because we all signed up knowing that that kind of thing is here. Random nternetseurferA, should not see that same image in an avatar just because he happens to see a thread called the banning game, and was curious about it.

EDIT: i noticed that there is another thread ob this subject and post #2of this thread http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=8077 gives ashal's reasons for removing avatars basically everything i said above but shorter

Well' date=' it does make sense. It makes the forum safe for work, so you can check the forums at work, or even at home withouth your wife thinking you are surfing a pornsite.

Who the hell checks this forum at work? That's asking to get fired...

I'd be way too paranoid.:exclamation:

Censoring political discussion threads, basically a single person dislikes whats being discussed, whole thread is locked. Search the first page or two of general to see what I mean, they're still there.

A single person? Lol, No. I received mentions of the thread from at least 6 different people. And it wasn't what was being discussed but the fact that you were arguing like a 12 year old who only wanted their way and the thread devolved into senseless bickering instead of constructive criticism.

I think you were mistaking me for the other guy.

I was the one who simply was politely discussing (if you bothered to read the thread) whereas he came in, started getting insulting because I simply didn't see his post and respond quickly enough, and ended up posting random offenseve pics/quotes somehow attributed to me, while I attempted to remain polite with him.

Yeah, sure, childish.

lol.

Some of this may be relevent to the current discusion some of it may not be.

If child pronography was found on this site then it would be shut down within the same week if not the same day. IMO there are some mods on this forum which push the very limit of what is deemed acceptable from a modding point of view.

1: if you are a member you must be 18+

This rule is already in effect but you will always get one or two underage users that will sign up on the site. They can't be removed without vaildating their age which the site has no way of doing. To be honest there is most likely one on here now.

2: if you are a member you read the terms and conditions and are aware that this IS an adult community and therefore you may encounter "abnormal content"

To be honest in some cases there is abnormal and just plain wrong. Yes goblins and creatures gangbanging women is one thing but in some cases there is always that one user that decides to take it one step further.

This forum still has to obey within the law as stated by Ashal here. In some cases I am surpised that even if you have a pirated copy you can get from here. Right we have all most likely done our share of pirating but even then it still might be only support but LL can most likely get in trouble for it.

http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=596

It's been in the rules since 05/01' date=' I always make a new post in the rules thread so people can see something has been edited about them.

It's about removing our adult footprint which is out in the open to unregistered users, aka users who haven't opted in to see that kind of content and potential minors. As the site grows so does potential for legal trouble or the web server host yanking the site offline due to content. May also notice we're no longer using shady adult ads, this is only possible as a result.

Also makes the site browseable from work, which is a concern for some people.

My sig got deleted for showing side boob and linking to this site as a referral. Is a butt too obscene? Lets find out.

I didn't see your last sig, the referal is no big deal. I don't care about nudity in signatures, the rules allow it as long as the sig isn't overly graphic, but come on use some common sense you're obviously being intentionally antagonistic here.

I picked it because of the lack of nudity. How is soft core overly pornographic?

The rule states overly graphic, not overly pornographic. A picture depicting hardcore rough sex, whether it contains nudity or not obviously falls under this. You obviously know this and are just trying to push buttons.

I appreciate the direction that Ashal is taking this site. I find that this site has managed to achieve a pretty balanced perspective.

The more successful this site is, the more people it attracts, the more members it get - the more scrutiny it will receive. Ashal has willingly taken on the role of protecting the future of this site, the rules/boundaries, which he often takes the time to explain, seem to be put in place solely to ensure that this site will continue to thrive in the future.

But there are always going to be people who will push the boundaries, often just to see how far the boundaries can be stretched. Ashal has the unenviable task of being the one who has to enforce these boundaries and from what I've seen, he's pretty soft and respectful in doing so. A couple of days ago I stumbled across a discussion Ashal had on another site (don't remember what site) in which a commenter was saying to Ashal that LL (or it may have been the internet in general) should be completely without boundaries and everyone should be able to whatever they wish. In that thread, Ashal pointed out that LL is subject to certain laws and also that if LL was to continue to be able to get space on servers (i.e. to continue to exist), then certain rules had to be enforced.

FYI - the thread linked to on the previous page was started by a member taking Ashal to task for not enforcing the rules on Avatars.

some days you just can't win. ;-)

Personally I am very intrigued about the future of this site. Keep in mind that the only reason that's keeping LL alive is that you can host and discuss content here that is largely frowned upon by other sites (rape, beastiality for example). The rule that forbids explicit images as signatures and avatars is one that I for one welcome - just because this is an adults only forum you don't have to see porn everywhere. In fact, I find it kind of immature, but that's just me.

But on the other hand, where will the line be drawn? Maybe next time mods about rape are banned? Who knows.

Well it seems no matter who we are or where we go, rules will follow and must be followed. A simple fact of societal life. As far as the future of this site goes, I think it is a bright one. As you said some of the topics and materials covered here are controversial but legal within an adult community, and I agree that the posting of pornographic images even as signatures is excessive even in a community such as this. It's unfortunate that Prophour was unable to accept that and I do hope Prophour reconsiders that position.

Perhaps in the future the line maybe drawn a little closer to the vest, who knows. What is certain is that if that was to happen, either this community will adapt or it will move on somewhere else. Like Prophour.
