New GPU's

GTX 1080 has already been released GTX 1070 will be at the 10th of June, and later this summer we will get AMD's 400 series,
GTX 1070 is about $390 and AMD 480 at $200.

AMD 480 will not be as powerfull as Nvidias latest, but with that price, and the reported performance, it's not a bad deal.

I do value powerful GPU's and thinking of a 1070, but the price here in EU will not be $390, it will be more like €440 ($500.) And at that "Steam exchange rate" I rather go with the AMD's  €215 ($244).

Are you thinking of upgrading to a newer GPU?

Nou, gtx 970 runs games in the silky smooth 60fps with no issues. I don't see a point of upgrading right now.

It wouldn't work for Skyrim so not really a point in upgrading it. At least now its quite expensive, hella expensive. I would rather spent money for something more useful.

If you want to upgrade your graphics card with one of the new ones, don't do it now. Keep in mind that some of the early GTX 9xx series cards had coil whine issues and then it turned out that the 970 had a slower .5GB memory segment etc. Not to mention potential driver issues. It would be wise to wait at least a couple of months and continue reading reviews and opinions of early adopters.

Right now I have a GTX 980 TI 1.1GHz with 8GB VRAM.

I tried a GTX 1080 Founder Edition this week end on my PC. Not mine, it was from a friend that is an early adopter.

Tried these games:

Assassin Creed Syndicate max settings on 1960X1080 --> GX980 => 55-60 FPS always; GX1080 => 58-60 FPS always

Skyrim no ENB over-rendered at 2560X1500 and downscaled to 1960X1080 --> 60FPS steady on both cards

Skyrim with ENB over-rendered at 2560X1500 and downscaled to 1960X1080 --> 60FPS steady 980, but some frame drops on 1080 in some cases (for about a second, then back to 60FPS)

Fallout 4 max settings 1960X1080 --> 60FPS on both cards

XCOM2 Max settings 1960X1080 --> gtx980 30FPS on scenes, 60FPS on 90% of the time, in some cases drop to 50 FPS; GTX1080 30FPS on scenes, 60FPS almost all the time

So, I don't think I will upgrade right now.

Not a big enough step up for you at all. I think no one with a 980 ti should upgrade unless you're rolling in money like that. I'm waiting for the aftermarket cards to see what they bring but there aren't alot of benchmarks on the aftermarket cards yet. Guess we gotta wait for everyone to get home from Computex... ;)

I'm about 6 generations behind in graphics cards now so an upgrade is a must for me XD. I've just had issues sparing the money for parts because of life but with the 1080 I feel I can afford it in a few months. Hopefully much sooner though.

Well, a lot of us were waiting for after market cards and upon seeing most reviews it seems to really not matter. Most people thought the 1080 FTW would be the one because of having two eight pin connectors and better overclocking. According to TechSource on YouTube it's a beast of a card but it doesn't overclocking too much better either. From what I've researched if anyone is interested in the 1080 get the one that looks best in your build, it doesn't seem to matter that much unless the Classfied Edition has something up its sleeve.

I'll be replacing both the 270x in both computers with the shiny new offering from AMD come June 28th (or was it the 29th?)

~230 bucks for 8GB rx480 sounds... about the price range I was looking at. Leaks suggest some where very close to a 980... time will tell when benchmarks drops

Even though I use nvidia (not a fanboy just have g-sync monitor) that looks like a really good buy when it comes to cost per performance.
