The Memory Den

In fallout 4 there is a virtual reality device that allows you to experience "dreams" at the memory den.

this is a good opportunity to allow hundreds of different situations that dont even have to be lore friendly since its the players imagination.

A mod to allow you to do...anything.

Hey, I wanna go to the Memory Den and travel to Skara Brae!

How about tooling around Middle Earth?  Sure!

What about a romp thru time to collect historical figures to complete a high school presentation so you can pass and not have to go to Military School...and don't forget to save the Princesses, Dude!  EXCELLENT!

Hmmm...And of course Sexy Times Adventures...Can't forget about those.

Maybe formulate a set of missions around it where you go around collecting dreams/memories for Dr. Amari from Commonwealth citizens that people can enjoy in the

Den. Would be lore friendly, maybe after pulling the memories from Kellogg she had a breakthrough. Possibly make an end reward a hypno-ray gun that works like

Wabbajack, and hits enemies with random effects. Like one could be make them dance, two could be make them fuck anyone or anything in the vicinity, three could

be turn them into a deathclaw. Just random stuff for fun. Maybe you can even collect them from your companions to see what they think about you, or have wet dreams

about. :D

Upon hearing about The Memory Den before the game ever came out, I imagined it would be the launching point of many a mod... thus far, nobody has seemingly even attempted what appeared to me to be the simplest idea ever. Possibly, there is some issue with it being more complicated than just adding a quest or two...

How about as a way to break wills and make slaves or sex slaves? Or insert false memories to make an assassin? Or even as an explanation of how someone thinks they are the sole survivor only to find out the intro is all fake and they are really a synth or raider leader...alternate starts can be made this way.

If we're just saying whatever come to mind, how about an Into the Electric Castle mod where you play through that album  :P

This can be interesting fuck machine :-)

Rape a patron and then replace their memory so they think nothing happened?

Maybe a black market version of the memory den... where the screen fades to black after you get in the chair. Which is situated in an adjacent room with a closed door. Then the camera pulls back to show your unconscious body being dragged off through a hidden door to somewhere very real, but your char will think later that the punishments or whatever fanciful thing happens are just a dream scenario.

And your char awakes afterwards in the same chair, several ingame days later thinking nothing more of the dark fantasies they experienced.

While exploring or bartering with traders afterwards they may be able to find videos/adverts/posters for a show with a masked person with oddly similar birth marks to yourself.

Or I could go have a cold shower ;)

You could use it to play an escapee of another vault that goes to a nearby town and disarms a bomb... ;)

Or a courier who gets ambushed, or why not play a great stealth archer in another world, who happens to get powers from dragons? :P

The thing about this idea is, if you went about it the right way, it would allow you to make many very simple scenarios and fit them into the game. They wouldn't collide, you just set up a dialogue option or a holotape and it teleports you to an area somewhere outside the main game in dreamland. Take all the ideas above, no matter how skeletal, and they could work in game with that low level of detail.

Like, whoever comes around and makes the next Nehirm or Project Brazil, I hope they hook it in here so that it can be a natural and organic addition to the main game. After all, Operation Anchorage wasn't really THAT bad, was it? If you had been able to slip a different game into that particular tape deck, it would have been even BETTER :D

Maybe someone could make a mod that allows you via the Memory Den to replay quests in the main game or quests you haven't done but can't do anymore.

For example you finish the game with the Brotherhood but you want to see how things are if you sided with the Institute or Railroad and see how those missions went down without starting a new game.

Maybe even what if missions like what if you sided with the institute and the Brotherhood finished Liberty Prime and you and an elite squad of Synths have to destroy Liberty Prime and stop the Brotherhood's offensive before they could reach the CIT.

There is alot you can do with this honestly.

This would actually be tantamount to time travel, since if you want to see these events play out, you would have to run the quests associated with them (or copy the entire main game esm into a shadow copy somehow). That means checking out what would have happened would mean that's what the game thinks actually happened!

You could even use this principle as an Alternative Start mod, and change the player's starting location to the Memory Den, and let them pick their start from there. Roleplaying wise, you could play the game from wherever you choose at that point, either along the Sole Survivor storyline or somewhere else, as someone or something else. Once you reach the Memory Den in that life, you would climb in to the pod and the story has come full circle, you get back out immediately because it was a flashback this whole time, and now starts your life. Or... you could choose a different life, and see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Just reset a bunch of questlines and you could even start it all over.

This all begs the question, of course... is it all just in the player's head? Is it a dream? Are they real? Or is it just another simulation run on a computer somewhere out there? It's all very Cyberpunk and Matrix-esque, and now if I don't see it I will probably mod it to happen one day.

I thought the Memory Den dream sequences could be a great alternative hacking system allowing netrunning to other terminals in the game.

Instead of a Mastermind game, make it a cyberpunk maze instead. I love this idea, you are my new friend :D

So starting location somewhere neutral (like the cell in skyrim). You pick your start choice from a computer list, each with a nice description/background story. Then your char gets into the chair:

- and could "wake up" anywhere in the commonwealth, as a member of a any faction

- in a synth production lab

- as suggested, in another chair somewhere, with no idea which reality is real (this could even be done many times, with some normal surroundings and some surreal/disturbing settings. Just to make it even more confusing.

The possibilities are enticing :) So many ways the game could be played, can't wait.

a mod where you go to the memory den to play fallout 4 in fallout 4

The best part about the idea of using the Memory Den as an alternate start is this:

Console "tfc" during the Kellog kills your s/o sequence and look outside. The game already starts in the Memory Den.
