Myst42 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Hello again everyone Im trying to make a personal armor mix (mashup) but in order to make what i have in mind, possible, ill need to make some basic meshes in blender So the idea is making some bandages in legs and arms whith the same shape as the basic body, but bandage texture Now the problem is i need to learn how to texture and there are so mant tutorials i dont know where to start, besides, ive tried some of them and havent been able to find the right one that covers my need The primary issue is creating the mesh's texture map (which face is used for which part of the picture) I found the "unwrap" option is used for that but my problem is that the map appears very random and complicated (unwrap gives me a circle, but ive seen linear bands for purposes like this) For those who have seen a final dds texture file in Photoshop for almost any piece of clothing, you know the maps are all organized For example an armband like what im trying to do, could have a black background and only one piece of texture even if its round, cause the texture goes all around the mesh, but when i use unwrap (smart or any other), the map appears with at leats 7 pieces of texture, vertical and horizontal, and some random faces in other parts so it's very complicated to paint in Photoshop. So im asking how to deal with those texture maps and make em organized so it can be easier to work the texture I hope i was able to explain myself with this so you can tell me how to make those organized texture maps Please if you know how to do this tell me Thanks in advance
Siouliusn Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hmm...creating meshes from zero, I'll do it one day(maybe xD ) But otherwise why don't you just clone the body, delete everything but the legs+arms Reload the body nif Resize the arm+leg from the 1st body Apply texture to those ? (it works)
Myst42 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 yeah i guess i could use a body clone but the texture problem is still there, iwd have to use the original body texture, cause if i use unwrap, the texture map gets all messy even with the most simple of forms, even if i create a test cilinder, the unwrap either gives me a circular form where faces get smaller to the centre, or gives me like 7 separate faces of the cilinder Its an option but if i want to make my outfit absolutely perfect, i need to learn how make meshes I believe the part of modeling and skinning is very possible with the tutorials ive seen Its the texturing part where i have the problem, i mean where do modders learn to texture the way they do, cause tutorials on this dont tell you how to organize texture maps by the way the outfit is an improved and oblivion-like version of this one: its intended for a necromancer character
GrimReaper Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 You can adjust the UV Map manually. Just like you can move/rotate/scale the vertices.
Myst42 Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 Thanks for the advices Anyway ive managed to see some tutorials and found something interesting http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/UV_Map_Basics this page shows an orange line which i believe is the anwser to my prayers though i havent been able to test it yet...
