CyborgNinja Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 As the title explains, I've been getting a CTD every single time I launch the game. I've been playing the game with no problems for the last three months or so, until today. After trying to load up one of my save files, I instantly had a CTD. The CTD now occurs when I launch the game, and I cannot even get to the main menu.Papyrus log: [05/20/2016 - 06:27:10PM] Papyrus log opened (PC) [05/20/2016 - 06:27:10PM] Function GetEffectMagnitudes in the empty state on type Ingredient does not exist. Lance711 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 There's probably a mod that must be missing a master file if it's crashing on Bethesda's logo. Also try using Loot to sort load orders
myuhinny Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Run TES5EDIT it can tell you what masters are either missing or below the ones needing them to be above them in the load order.
CyborgNinja Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 There's probably a mod that must be missing a master file if it's crashing on Bethesda's logo. Also try using Loot to sort load orders But how is that possible if the game has been running perfectly okay until now? I did check Wyre Bash in case that there is a missing master, and everything checks out. I didn't install any new mods, or modify any either. I also frequently use LOOT when I install mods (which I haven't done in almost a month), but I can't tell if it had any effect on the load order in Mod Manager, and I refuse to have my installed mods destroyed by NMM again. Run TES5EDIT it can tell you what masters are either missing or below the ones needing them to be above them in the load order. I didn't know TES5EDIT could do that, so I have no clue how to do so. I did check in Wyre Bash, and everything seemed to be in order in regards to missing masters. Dunno how to tell which files have to be above/below another either. It wasn't until this issue that I started to delve more into TES5EDIT and Wyre Bash.
myuhinny Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 TES5EDIT when you launch the .exe file it will start to load all of the .esm/.esps of the mods that you have installed into your game into it if it hits a error in your load order it'll stop and tell you why it stopped read the message fix it close TES5EDIT and continue starting it till it no longer hits anymore errors and is able to load up everything fine. If it hits a .esm/.esp that has a missing master or the master is below the one needing it above it it'll stop and tell you what master is missing or below the one needing it above it. You can also click on the + next to a .esm/.esp in the left list then click file header to see what it's masters are. It can also show some other file errors as well but it's mostly used for finding masters that are missing or out of place. Wrye bash also have a save tab option where you can look at any given save file and see what the load order was at the time the save was made so you can check and see if your load order is the same in the save files or if the load order changed.
Gameplayer Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Since he didn't say when the game crashes.... No mention of when he Starts SKSE the game just crashes on initial load screen.... Or it could have been "When I'm loading my save" "When Im starting a new game" It might be that he overwrote a skeleton file.

Thanks for the detailed instructions! I fired up TES5EDIT, but no dice. No error messages of any sort; everything loaded up without stopping. I checked the load order of my save files, and they match my current one. Not that I could check if it works though, since like I mentioned in the OP, I can't even get to the main menu. Since he didn't say when the game crashes.... No mention of when he Starts SKSE the game just crashes on initial load screen.... Or it could have been "When I'm loading my save" "When Im starting a new game" It might be that he overwrote a skeleton file. Uh, I DID say exactly when the game crashes. Not just when it began to crash, but where it crashes now. Its in the second half of my first post. And no, I did not overwrite a skeleton file. I haven't dropped in a single mod file, or touched my Skyrim install folder for about a month or more. Like I said, everything was going perfectly fine (I even played just fine last night), until today.
myuhinny Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 What windows are you using? Has there been a update to the windows that you are using lately? If so that could be the cause. Windows 7 works well with skyrim but I think I have seen some having problems with windows 8/10. Have you checked under MO's conflict tab to see if there are any conflicts there. I don't use it as I have never had a problem with NMM though I use a older build that never gets updated.

I don't use it as I have never had a problem with NMM though I use a older build that never gets updated. I'm on Windows 7, thankfully. One of the reasons I haven't done the switch to 10 is because of all the issues games seem to have on it. I'll have to check up on any recent updates, though. I also don't see any conflicts in MO. Its like the game just suddenly decided to stop working for no reason. I think I'm gonna see about finding an older version of NMM though. Seems like MO has caused nothing but trouble since I started using it. Would be interesting to see if launching through NMM makes a difference.
Tefajo Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Not even able to reach main menu is usually a missing master, but since you use MO (wich warns you if you do miss a master file) i am going to think of an alternative The only other thing i could think of is that your Skyrim ini files are not properly set to run with ENB (i see that you have installed ENB patch so i will assume you are using one) Refer to your ENB preset homepage to check the settings, but they are generally this ones Configure skyrimprefs.ini according to the following: [Display] ipresentinterval=1 <--- this combined with EnableVSync=true in enblocal.ini is important to avoid tearing bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 iMaxAnisotropy=0 iMultiSample=0 bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 bFXAAEnabled=0 Nonetheless i'd think that running a enb preset without the proper settings would cause nothing else but visual anomalies. Maybe you uninstalled / changed ENB presets but by mistake left old files (dlls) from the old one? THAT i do think it could cause CTD

THAT i do think it could cause CTD See, I thought that it may have been the ENB that was causing issue. I had some problems when I installed it a while ago that involved CTDs, but Ifinally figured things out and everything was running fine afterwards. I'll take you up on the advice though, and check stuff again. If it comes to it, I may just completely uninstall the ENB, and see what happens.
Tefajo Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 May i suggest you use this third party program to manage your enb? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/7804/? It's very easy to use and i found it very helpful. If you do like it and use it, then i also suggest you replace the supplied default "files.txt" with mine (its manually updated) files.txt

It's very easy to use and i found it very helpful. If you do like it and use it, then i also suggest you replace the supplied default "files.txt" with mine (its manually updated) I can officially confirm that killing my ENB stuff, including the extra mods associated with it, has solved the problem. I also got rid of High King of Skyrim, since it seems like doing anything related to that mod is a glitchy hell. Thanks for your help, and everyone else's as well! You guys are about a million times more helpful than other skyrim modding communities. EDIT: I also want to add that I'm using an older version of NMM as well, instead of MO. Launching through MO still seems to cause spontaneous CTDs before the main menu.
Tefajo Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I am glad to hear it got solved. I have been using MO for 18 months or so and have no CTD related problems. If anything my modding experience was greatly improved. You need to invest 1-2 hours of watching some tutorials in how to use MO and other related tools from MO (FNIS, TES5Edit, etc) but in my humild opinion its worthly Happy gaming!
