Been souring the web trying to find somewhere which tells me how to create / edit the .--P files (the ones - I think, which show the costume icon when selecting a costume).

Does anyone know how to do this?

It's just a simple preview file that you can make yourself pretty easily.

You can use Noesis to preview the model with black background, take a screenshot, crop the screenshot and resize it so that it is about 93x54 and you can save it as a .dds file.   Finally, use texture tool to view and replace the --p preview icon.
