So I installed a huge amount of mods (most from this very website) taking great, great care to make sure I had the latest versions of all the mods and everything was compatible with everything else. I ran LOOT several times, ran FNIS, and took maximum care to make sure everything was in order. So I started Skyrim (well, SKSE- the latest version AFAIK)...and disaster struck.

 

First, when I Started a new game, it told me I had an old version of the Unofficial Legendary Patch enabled and that this could "damage my game". I was concerned, but waited to see if it would have any effect.

 

Then, as soon as the game started, things went...hilariously wrong. The physics on the cart bugged out, causing the cart to flail about like a badly animated Garry's Mod ragdoll. I tried turning collision off and on, but no luck.

 

What's going on? I'm wondering if it's a bug with one of the physics enhancements I have but I'm not sure...

 

For the record I'm using NMM as it's what I'm used to and migrating the mods would take ages.

I am using SKSE and FNIS, and both they and my base Skyrim installation are at the latest version (I'm pretty sure anyway).

 

Here's what I THINK is my Papyrus log (you'll have to excuse me if this is the wrong thing, I've never needed to access the Papyrus logs before).

You don't need Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp if you have Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp already.

Since it says on the Unofficial Skyrim Patch page to refer to the Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch instead.

 

^ Probably not the cause of your problem, just thought i would put it out there. :D

Or use an alternate start mod (AS-LAL, unbound, etc).  Or do not activate any mods (except those necessary to crate a character) until after the character is created and you can crate a save (enter Helgen Keep).  The "cart ride from hell" is a well-known bug that has many sources - Animated Prostitution used to be blamed a lot, then it was SOS, then (strangely) Immersive Armors, etc.  Basically, it's a delicate piece of "bethesda" that can be easily broken by any mod and can bypassed by using alternate start mods.

Well, the cart problem is fixed for good. So that's something. Thanks for all the advice!

 

Unfortunately, the game is now randomly suffering CTDs. LOOT and TE5Edit aren't showing anything up...

So in order to work around the impossibly buggy cart ride I installed the alternate start mod. That sorted that out, but the game will not stop randomly crashing. Have I just installed too many mods? I've tried everything from the Skyrim Optimization Patch to ENBoost and it just keeps crashing.

Well, define "randomly." Like, does it seem to crash every half hour or so, or in certain locations, or certain types of locations, or near certain people, or when certain things are being done? Or is there no pattern at all?

 

You can try uploading a papyrus log. It's not guaranteed to lead to a solution, but it could help.

There's no real pattern to the crashes at all. If this makes sense it usually happens when I do something- so for example, examine a body, leave a building, try and surrender etc- as opposed to it crashing with no input at all. Basically, the trigger for a crash is any kind of input (key or mouse).

 

Here's the most recent papyrus log, not that I suspect it will be much use.

For now I've turned off all the SexLab mods as I suspect those are what caused the instability. I may try adding them into the game gradually to see if I can build a stable game and pinpoint the cause of the problem, but I fear I am simply too incompetent at modding to create the open-world sex game I've been craving.

Huh. Okay.

My guess would be that the schlong is far too long and has gotten tangled in the cart wheels. :)

You joke, but that was actually one of the theories.  Another stated that the combination of SOS with Immersive Armors was the cause.  Of course, long before SOS existed, the blame fell squarely on Animated Prostitution mod.  Just to note, I had this happen when I first started playing Skyrim --- ON THE XBOX 360.  No mods to blame it on, just generic "bugthesda" crap as usual.  So again - best fix is skip the damn cart ride and use an alternate start mod.  There are plenty to choose from now.
