farranya Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I want to replace my graphics card but I do not know much about them or what to get for what i need. I like to at the least play my games on high graphics and I use enb. I use 1080p television. What is a good long lasting upgrade? I have a fx-8350 and a 750 watt power supply. I can spend as much as 500 USD.
Tepi Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 If you don't really need a new one right now, you should wait some months as both amd and nvidia are releasing new cards during the summer.

I don't follow AMD(not a fanboy I just have a gsync monitor) , but if I remember right Nvidia is unveiling their new card in April the first week. Once someone gets their hands on one before consumers and gives up some benchmarks then I'll see what I'm going to do.
varenne Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Yeah, I'd hold off too, were I you. I wasted $128 on an XFX AMD R7 360 and it's crap in my opinion. 2GB VRAM just ain't cutting it with the newer games. My next will be at least 4GB, more if I can afford it or the prices come down later this year. Think about which games you may want to play in the future and do some research on their requirements. Then pad it a bit as gaming companies are now blatantly lying about minimums, just so they can sell a few more thousand games. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a perfect example of this. Baring all of the bugs, flaws and a major memory leak, 2GB still just ain't cutting it. Add to that AMD needs to work on vastly improving their drivers and make use of all the hardware architecture. ATI was notoriously bad in this department as well, hence the 3rd party Omega drivers coming about.
pinky6225 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Dunno what the US cost for this is but MSI R9 390 GAMING 8G Radeon http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ZPOAEA2/ref=s9_acsd_bw_wf_s_GAME_cdl_10?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-10&pf_rd_r=0D7FSZKKAVE4QWPM008V&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=806170547&pf_rd_i=8420722031 looks quite nice Tbh though i have a 270x 4GB one and i dont think there is anything i'm currently playing (skyrim, master of orion, xcom 2) that would get much of a performance increase from a change so i expect you are in a similar boat
varenne Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 In the US it's about $349.99 or $374.99 (after a rebate), depending on who you buy from and if you have Amazon Prime. Newegg has it for $359.99 after $20.00 rebate. That's one on my short list, but I'm going to wait as I believe these prices will drop significantly over the next few months as new models and improved versions are released. Found a nice site and DL for benchmarking your current build, and then side-by-side comparing other components to upgrade or improve it. It is: http://www.userbenchmark.com/. (The tool doesn't always complete for me and I have to do it a couple of times. Could be my external drives mess it up.)
farranya Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Ya I saw the R9-390 but was not sure if it was better enough to spend hundreds of dollars as the upgrade. I think I can wait a bit longer and see what comes out later. My computer scored ok, just have outdated harddrive. Thanks.
