Hi all. Im here to ask you please, if a i5 4590 is enough for a heavily modded skyrim with NPC addons, ENB (realvison full) and SMC (skyrim mod combiner) full.

I want  30-60 fps.

I have now

Fx 6300 overclocked to 4.4 with a hyper evo 212

sabertooth fx

Asus strix gtx 970

hdd caviar blue 5400 rpm 1Tb

When i mod my skyrim i get fps as low as 10 in some places and a lot of stutters so i just stopped to play it, now i want to upgrade to a intel because they say a fx 8350 wont make it better tham a fx 6300.

I would like to hear from someone that use a i5 4590 if possible please, i have till 17/03 to decide.

i can buy a i5 4690k, but that would prevent me to buy ssd. Thank you in advance to take your time to read this, and sorry for my ingles.

Amd radeon r9 390 is better than gtx 970 and cheaper too

Other wise i5 4590 is good enough

Thanks

I forgot to say i play in 1080p

About GPU its dificult for me to change it now, also since i use Windows 10 that as a 4 gb limite to Vram does this limite make gtx 970 equal with r9 300?  I plan only to change Motherboard and CPU, so if i5 4590 is enough for heavily modded skyrim i will buy it since it would be 100 dolar less (im on a budget) tham to buy a i5 4690k and a Azus z97-A. So the build would be like this:

I5 4590

Asrock H97M Pro4 (Or better Motherboard in this price range)

Asus Strix GTX 970 4gb

Samsumg Evo 2.5 250 GB

Memory Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb

This for 1080p is enough? Also if you know better motherboard in 100 dólar that is better tham the above please advise me. Thank you all.

It should be good enough the processor plays very less role in rendering graphics. But heavy scripted mods are processed by the cpu . The 4590 is powerful with boost upto 3.7 GHz but the threading is 22 nm is a bit old. But for skyrim it shouldnt be problem. But for fallout it will be difficult

But i play fallout 4 maxed with fx 6300, so i5 4590 would be worse? This bother me since i plan to play fallout 4 heavily modded when the comunity made better mods.

If you are using 4k textures, replace them with 2k textures, because even with those specs you'll have a performance drop. 4k textures are intended for specialists who do screenshots.

While you're at it try SMCO to optimize your textures.

You'll be better off optimizing than trying to spend a lot of money just to get 60FPS.

-------------

BTW, I just noticed your hard drive. A 5400rpm drive is slow. Only thing you have to do instead is to pick up a WD Black 1tb, which is faster.

I use SMC it as a option for optimize texture, when i use that option i get less sttuters, but the graphics isnt the same for me. As for 4k texture i have them only on some weapon and cloths (i have tried without 4k its the same since i use 2k texture for landscape). But even with less sttuters i still get low fps as 10 in some places, and somethimes the game freeze for 2 sec, and yes i have tried a lot of guides to config my enblocal ini, skyrimprefs.ini and others. The most weird thing is when i run or when im on a horse, the texture for landscape  take long to load, after 2 to 3 sec the grass and trees will just pop up like magic (this happens even with just skyrim flora overhaul) , it totally break immersion. And if i add heavy npc mods some towns become unplayable. Do you play on a FX 6300? Would like to know from someone that use this combination (fx 6300+gtx 970 asus strix). Good point on my hdd, its realy slow, i was thinking maybe that is the problem, but i live in CABO VERDE, here they dont sell nothing for gamers (they still selling core 2 duo and ddr2 yet), so if you want to buy componentes you need to travel or have someone to buy it for you, now i have someone that can buy this things for me in china so if i just buy a ssd and it didnt solve my problem,  i will have to wait for another oportunity in a year or more. I have tried ANATRIX guide, it is better but still, i get stutters and low fps slow load of landscape but no freeze. Thank you for your help. Im going to wait for someone that use a fx 6300 and someone that use a i5 4590 for heavily modded skyrim. When i say heavily modded, i want to use REALVISION FULL plus JKs Skyrim and REQUIEM with most of those mods patched HERE if they arent imcompatible like jks skyrim and immersive college of winterhold. Pls someone give more advise, so i can take a good decision. Thank you all for your time.

No the i5 4590 is better than fx 6300 in all ways .but dont expect to run in 1080 with highest resolution textures

I may be wrong, but since i can play fallout 4 with a fx 6300 and gtx 970 in 1080p with everything on max and still get high fps, i think a i5 4590 would be better and in the texture department maybe my gtx 970 would be the problem, not the i5. Thank you.

It's not the hard drive that will only affect load times, something tells me your cpu is not being used correctly or some mod is doing something evil. I have used a 6300 and it had no problems with modded skyrim even without any overclock at all.

hmm... i have installed skyrim more tham 10 times and try all diferent setup, step base, step extended, Anatrix guide, all work ok until i put in a ENB, them is CTD, stutter, freeze. And most annoying is the slow landscape load, you see plain terrain and after seconds it fills again with tree and grass. One thing is that some guide requires only a 2gb card but when i use Skyrim monitor i get like 4GB Vram usage and 4GB memory usage, my CPU usage never go more tham 47% my GPU never go more tham 99%. So you can testifies that a FX 6300 is enough for a heavily modded skyrim, like THIS? If so i will trust you since you had good experience with FX 6300. Them i will buy only a ssd and maybe more 8G memory and change my Windows to Windows 7. Thank you. i will return to post the results, if till 17 my mind still set on this.

Before you do anything, I still have the 6300 and now it's in a different pc but using the same old r9280 I used to run it with and I will install skyrim on it tonight then work on getting those mods and see if that enb causes the same problems.

I have an i5-2500k overclocked to 3.6 Ghz, 16 Gb ram and 2 AMD 280x w/ 3Gb ram and I just use standard HDD's. I have had ENBs drop me to <15 fps and others easily run 60+ fps so they can be the biggest thing to kill your framerates.

Yes i know it, but realvision is not a demand enb, its one of the most performance friendly, if you use the performance version. My hdd is  a caviar blue 5400 rpm. Thanks.

That drive should only be an issue if you are loading a lot of textures all the time. You can use the Skyrim Performance Monitor and look at the HDD usage, CPU usage and GPU usage and see what is being maxed out. Typically for me the CPU runs all out (the one core Skyrim uses) and I can easily max out the GPU's but the HDD is hardly used at all.

I run a heavily modded game with the physics and an average enb.

Install MSI afterburner and then enable GPU usage (check to show on osd as well) first, to see its your CPU or not.

If its shows 100% or close to it, then you have a GPU limit. GPU load can drop for a moment during cell loadings. But, if your frames are low while the load is under 90-95% for a while then your CPU limits you in that area/condition.

An example, GPU load is the first number in %.

I have massive CPU limit here. Blizzard and their engines...

PS: I doubt he/she can see maxed or close to maxed out CPU usage in any game with an AMD. And the CPU core loads most likely a lie atleast on AMD. The total CPU load looks correct.

I use Skyrim Performance Monitor, my CPU never goes above 47%, but i think is because the program take in to account all cores, not just the one is being used. One thing i do have doubt is that i use Mod Organizer to install mods, and some mods overwrite others does i have to hide all the files that was overwrite to optimize Vram usage? I know in NMM it does it automaticaly. With all this statements i think is time to try mod skyrim again, but this time on Windows 7, since i never had installed it on Windows 7 with this set up (fx 6300 + gtx 970), i had a fx 4100+hd 7970 on Windows 7. But before do so i have to ask if i will see any improvement on Windows 7, since my GTX 970 as only 4gb Vram. Thank you.

I use Skyrim Performance Monitor, never had used MSI afterburner because i have read in some fórum it as problem with ENBs. But does they do same thing? About the performance of AMD im in doubt becouse im having all this trouble, and i dont know if is the FX 6300 fault or not but when i install npc mods like vilja in skyrim the town she is in became almost unplayable. That is why i never tried to install Interesting NPCs or Inconsequential NPCs. Thank you.

Its had problems, but looks like this is no longer true. I use it without an issues since 2-3 year on 2 different VGA with many different ENBs. At the moment, its works perfectly with Oblivion+ENB as well.

Any FX have problems with many games, but personally, I almost never see CPU limit in Skyrim with my FX@4.7GHz. But with your different mod setup, things can be different. In the other hand, an NPC mod should not effect the performance at all. I suspect something else cause your issue.

4.7? Its water cooling or air? This is my validation on CPU-Z i use Hyper evo 212, couldnt go more tham 4.4 becouse the strees test on AIDA64 would make my temps below 0 margin on AMD Overdrive Monitor. I Have proof that fx 6300 bottleneck GTX 970, becouse i did a firestrike test with 4.2 and got 8171, at 4.4 GHz got  8310, with overclocked GTX 970 (i overclocked it with GPU Tweak II) where i set GPU Boost to 1400, memory clock to 8000, power target 110%, Fan 50% on manual, GPU Temp Target 79, i got 8783. And this score on firestrike is less tham one i saw on youtube with a i5 4690k and stock gtx 970. Now with this overclocks im going to mod skyrim again to see the results. i will return after i finish it. Thank you.

On air with a Scythe Ninja 3.

Its not as simple, but its not hard to understand. Firestrike score scales with both CPU and GPU. In games, generally you either limited by your CPU or GPU. In StarCraft 2, you can downgrade to a GTX 560 and you still dont have lower framerate because of the CPU. But if you play the new Tomb Raider, the only way to incrise your fps is to buy a better VGA. Both limit (GPU, VGA) can happen in the same game as well but not in the same time. Depends on the conditions and location. Battlefield 4 multiplayer is a good example for this.

What i mean with this, you can be limited by your CPU in a game always, sometimes, never. Same for the GPU.

My FX is a limit in many games what I play with my "weak" GTX 760, but its can be totally different for you.. Changing to an Intel i5 can be a measurebale, noticebale, big upgrade or pure money wasting, depending on what games you play.

edit: I saw a few post about new nvidia drivers and slow ENB performance somewhere (here? on reddit? dont know), thats something you should check.
