Settlement Recommendation

Where would you say is the best place to build a settlement?

I never liked Sanctuary, and I don't like leaving my settlement open. But I also like to have space to build, especially with Homemaker adding full structures.

I hate having the generics though, so usually I just make a place for me and the companions.

First download this mod, itll make most settlemets bigger:

now my favorite are: hangedmen alley: underrated settlement, on a great location. highly defensive and great for a home or tower. Perfect for a mercenary HQ, crimelord Hq or wasteland sin city (ill use it as a mafia controlled kind of city when the dlc comes) also perfect for a  superhero or villainplaytrhoug since it makes a great secret base.

expanded covenant (with a scrap everithing mod):  becomes pefect for a post apocaliptic fortress or castle with 2 or more levels of walls, also gives a amazing tough survivors safehouse feel if you watch the walking dead its like the prison on a past season.

Spectacle island: I love the idea of a island, perfect for eveil character hideout/island of doom or independent territory. (one of my chracters declared himself the emperor iof the island and built it untill got 100 settlers and looked like a city state, then he got top weaponry for several sttlers and started a campain to conquer the commonwealth leaving only goodneigbour because of his good friend hancok and diamond city as a independent trade city.

Depends what you want really. Just looking for a small place to call home, or a large area to build a city upon?

The downside to using those pre-builts in Homemaker, is they are not navmeshed, so if you're trying to build a small town for your companions, they won't use those houses.

If you're looking for one nice big house for all your companions, try something like Croup Manor. And then get the Rebuilt Prewar Houses Series mod to fix all those broken houses so they are actually usable. I found Croup Manor to be a perfect size for just my companions and myself to live in. Attached some screens below so you can see how it looks in my game.

You can see the outside here. Turrets setup, the main house, the garden to the right of the house and even workshops behind the house:

Forgot the downstairs area, but it leads to Strong's room (though he doesn't sleep there. I put Super Mutant stuff down there and a bed.

But then you head upstairs and it is like a game room/laundry room. Turned the safe room into a bathroom:

Straight ahead past the pool table is the male sleeping room. Beds for all the male companions:

Then head upstairs to the third floor and you got the office area and a balcony that leads to an outdoor cooking and sitting area:

That's my Croup Manor for my companions and myself. Works out great honestly. Nice size, but not too small or too big. Companions even comment on the house every now and then, and they work the farm and use the bar and sleep in their beds.

Just don't set up a radio beacon or else it will get taken over by settlers. You might get a settler once in a blue moon even without a beacon set up, but all you have to do is open the workshop and send them away to another settlement. And you'll have the place to yourself.

I never liked the island because it hosted a lot of mirelurks and high level bosses. I felt like it would be difficult to defend, especially since I have no clue where the raid spawns are for it.

I can't wait for modders to make it where you can found your own settlements in the Commonwealth. Or add new wastelands to explore giving us more settlement options.

there is a mod that allow you to place workbenches and create settlements, but I forgot the name

In good South American locust fashion we prefer the portable settlement, so wherever we fall upon to raid the crops and loot the men there we settle for the night, a perfect Latin one-night stand that is ;)

Funny, out of all the settlements I prefer Sanctuary, not only you can use the pre-war homes and also with a little trick, add doors for each houses, but it also help me to avoid these ugly wood/metal ugly structures. I saw on the Wasteland Workshop DLC that we might get concrete structures but I think they won't be that good either.

You could try Tidings Co-op or the Starlight settlement, now that one is very big, you got plenty of space there and it's not like Spectacle Island, the terrain is mostly flat.
