Istill Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 70% is pretty impressive really that's just how the math is going to work out in the end. What that means is 25 to 30% acceptance on what they have done. There's no single magic bullet to win over the 70% they are likely fractured within itself with only the common ground of "we don't like this." Catering to just a part within the 70% will likely result in alienation of the accepting 25% to 30% and part of the 70%. The result will be nearly the same. This is the toll we pay for giving player agency and having them invested greatly thinking they have a choice while it was all an illusion. Look at Morrowind abundant amount of numbers carefully, think about what they mean and what they actually do. What exactly a seemingly large selection of weapons really do? Slightly different damage, attack speed, and range? Now also consider if weapon moves set and combo should be in a TES game And what does it mean when I make a sword user? Is it really that different from axe? hammer? What exactly does proficiency means when it seems to only point out the character will suck at using majority of the other weapons? How is that benefiting the player when they come across something that looks good but can't use effectively? What's the point of an arbitrary limitation? Armor is the same, perhaps even more dangerous when they all seem like they could be combine, and if there's only one does it have any meaning? Don't get trick by having numbers toss in front of you to equate depth, complexity for complexity sake is questionable practices. It won't surprise me if the number of skill trees decrease again. The removal of them should not have been shocking in FO4, they had it coming, people can see through the trick they must try something else. Rather it was done well or not is up for grabs, but the same old formula needs to be shaken up because it really isn't good by any means to begin with. Magic is somewhat lacking in Skyrim, but is yet another layer of ever so slightly powerful spells with variation of projectile really that much of a big deal? A few one off spells in the older games were nice, too bad levitation breaks the game, destroy armor has...other purposes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I quite like the item crafting in Skyrim, it let you to have nearly anything you want or need assuming you have the appropriate skill and level. There's certainly an argument to be have between the value of crafted item vs found item. All I can say is I tend to lean towards the crafting side after seeing it and that in turn build up the importance of having crafting skills. More equip slot is good for various purposes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But from a gameplay perspective it could be a balancing issue that varies game to game. Item dependency, power differences between good and average quality items. A character with the most powerful 10 items vs average 10 would likely be more different than a character with most powerful 5 vs average 5 which could make gameplay balancing difficult. Should it demands high item dependency or should it center around the average? In morrowind Attacks from different angles provided different dmg type, and for instance you werent in the best place when you were slashing and blunting[atack from behind head] couse spear is not good at cutting, its good at thrusting, but skeletons wont get big dmg from that. Thats just the variety, and becouse of that werent popular, but with dmg system they provided in oblivion and skyrim... yea this would work. Look this is not about large selection. Its just about becouse it is, becouse WHY NOT. I dont know people who play skyrim without Immersive armors and weapons, its just about it being in game. Same reason we are instaling different stuff in our game Combo.. Dunno, there are mods for that, but making NEW weapon type is propably hardcoded otherwise we would have SPEARS already, but we got ''weird swords'' camuflaged as spears. Welll in Morrowind you got profinency, you were good at axe... Then swing it in 1 hand, and if you find orcish one... Why not use two hands for it? That system was good, im not saying it is bad in skyrim, couse it isint. But still you had to chose you weapon type to even more specialise your character, and you found artifacts, and though well sad that its a mace... i wish i would train that... And actually i can train it. But the real vision of that was replayabylity. In skyrim whatever i play... I play mostly the same, even with mods like requiem, or perma. Arbitrariy limitation. Man... Dont say such a things, its not a limitation, its specialisation. It works the same way, Mage wont be swinging 2h sword just becouse he is mage[but battle mage is different, but skyrim lacks battle mage] Thing is, archer wont be good in something else. Its just how it should be, in skyrim you are in arbitrary way FORCED to level battle skils, becouse if you dont do it, you gonna fall off becouse enemies grow with you, and they dont care if you are mage/warrior/alchemist. And this is just wrong. Combining armor was good thing. You wont say that this wasnt fun, looking for these only 1 pieces of Deadric armor in the game. But still, you could mix armor parts and that was interesting, becouse you didint have to be entirely focused on only 1 type. And that was also good, you could, but this was also effective. I mean in skyrim you are chosing between Heavy armor that will make you stronger, much stronger and light armor which is basicly MAGE armor[not countig thief stuff] theres no reason for any warrior to be light, becouse he will be weaker, skyrim is letting you to sneak with heavy armor then WHY NOT? Its not like any armor gives any differences agains magic, so... Sorry light armor you just suck. Thats the problem, you arent even slowed properly. Im backing to armor parts, i like mixing, and matching, just the same way like someone is like having girls with dicks in their game. I dont judge. This was realy nice posibility with this mixing, belive me. And you could always pick something in the middle, Medium armor, many people didint used that becouse it wasnt popular even in game. But, it was nice stuff for people thinking that heavy was too heavy and light was... Too light. In skyrim theres no point in using mix/match between armors. It got sense where was third type. With medium you had to chose later on, you stick with medium which is enough for me always, or you going for ebony/deadric heavy. Medium got only 1 way, Ebony mail. Well old formula was old formula, you say it wasnt good, i say it was good. That was the game from the start. I liked that, but for me f4 got the same character development like Skyrim, and i wont change my mind here, becouse its too similiar to say otherway. I know that levitation breaks the game, becouse game is designed to work without it, unlike morrowind where levitation was part of the Telvani mechanic, that was just thing that i missed, but i get it it skyrim not vvardenfell. Look, spells are just boring, Like always i have to install apocalypse, wintermyst and of course requiem addons for that[alteration useful at last] Crafting could be better though. Im not saying its bad. But crafting in the normal game is weird becouse of level scaling. It in wery weird way specialise you in something you dont want to. For instance, haha im a blacksmith... Im gonna do this super sword. Then going to dungeon getting rekt becouse only sword was made, next time made armor, and rekt enemy. But few levels later crafted deadric armor make it legendary[who crafts deadrics anyway....] And basicly i dont like it, its somehow to much of specialisation. yea you got perks in blacksmithing becouse at certain level you just had to put it there, you couldnt start other tree becouse you will fall off. i know about equip slots, i get it. Still, pauldrons, gloves WERE NICE. You was rewarded many times with items like pauldron, gloves, that was fine, it took time to complete set. OF course its balancing issue, but balance is wrong in the first place with this whole leveling. Look, im playing requiem now. And i see my character grows, in normal game i see as my character is getting weaker and weaker from level to level, and game dont care if i have dwarwen stuff or deadric stuff becouse at this lvl i should have this stuff. In morrowind on the other hand normal bandit caves, ruins, even deadric quickly become you training ground, for a warrior with mix of a mage. of course 2hander will reckt you fast at first levels. Thing is some monsters level with you, some dont, and that was good. Exterior was leveling with you, nearly all caves were static, tombs were leveled[except bosses]. And that was preety much fine, There were ruins that got higher minimal level than the rest, and there was a lot of them, for instance kogroughn with winged twilight. The problem was that you just couldnt go and finish DLC becouse you wanted, you had to get character to lvl 30 at least to start bloodmon, and get some nice artifacts becouse there, just random deserters could kill you, but not becouse they got stuff, they were just skilled, and got a little magic stuff. Same stuff happened in the tribunal severs with undead and goblins. They were strong. And i remember 1 thing, that Light armor, mostly behaved similar to the one from skyrim, was useless unless you were a mage, but you could always mix and match, and that always was increasing his viability. so, skyrim has a balance issues, with no felling of character being stronger.
