darkconsole Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 So I just got this load screen for the first time (that I have noticed) after blowing up the institute. The only group in the Commonwealth willing to actually fight the Institute is the Railroad. Lets recap. Do railroad stuff. Save some synths. Decide to finally take out the institute. <Desdemona> Uh. So. Yeah. Uh. We Uh. Uh. Can't... actually. So Uh. Go talk to Preston and have the Minutemen help with that. When it came right down to actually fighting the institute they wussed out. I find this freaking hilarious. Yes of course they are cloak-n-dagger type stuff. I was hoping they would have a stealth mission to blow up the reactor. But no. Frontal assault seems to be the only choice. I assume the Brotherhood's way would have been even more frontal but they are pissed off that I did their job for them so I'm going to have to blow them up too here soon. Are there multiple arcs for the Railroad and I just happened to fall into the dumbest?
Guest Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Yep, the screen loader message is weird. I completed the game 3 times (Railroad (the first time), then BOS, then Institute). BIG SPOILERS... But you are an adult if you read this. And it is fun how the diff rents paths are glued to each other. Actually I had to betray BOS to be able to complete as RailRoad.
Content Consumer Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Are there multiple arcs for the Railroad and I just happened to fall into the dumbest? Now what the hell kind of question is that? This is a Bethesda game. Of course there are no multiple arcs! Anything non-linear was removed with pruning shears from the design document before development began.
aqqh Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Lets just say the story is severely lacking at some points. So everyone hates the Institute because they produce synths. and then you become a leader of the Institute can't it be made they would produce war droids instead of synths and then send them to wipe out all the commonwealth vermin - problem solved? I have no idea why there is no "diplomatic ending" - make everyone team up with each other and then start rebuilding the Commonwealth.
Arhon Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Here's hoping that we can mod the main quests in order to add more depth or the "diplomatic ending"

Are there multiple arcs for the Railroad and I just happened to fall into the dumbest? Yes, there are some missions you can fail, for example, by not completing them in the right order, which makes it impossible to finish the default Railroad arc, causing them to redirect you to either the Minutemen or BoS (!). During my first playthrough, I messed up somewhere making it not possible for the Railroad to build the relay, so I had BoS build the relay instead, and invaded the Institute with the Minutemen. Interesting enough, this meant that I was never tasked with destroying BoS, and BoS never invaded the RR headquarters (and Glory never died!). On my second playthrough, I was more careful with my mission order, to get a "pure Railroad finish", and in that playthrough, BoS did invade the RR headquarters (killing Glory! ) and I had to destroy BoS. The "pure Minutemen" playthrough again requires you to destroy BoS. The "pure BoS" playthrough requires destroying the Railroad. The only faction that never gets destroyed is the Minutemen. Which leads to the simple conclusion that Minutemen is the canon-ending, since they can't be destroyed.
