Guest Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I was working for two hours on the new episode for my thread - Sims 3 Sextopia world. When clicked on upload, something happened and my post wasn't uploaded to my thread. I beg anyone from administration desk to recover my post if possible. Thank you.
bjornk Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 It's gone, I'm afraid. It's always a good idea to copy the code of your entire post and then click on the post button. Especially if it's a lengthy post. If anything goes wrong you can always paste back the code you've copied.
Guest Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I' not good in such things.
bjornk Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Just click on the top-left button on the menu bar to turn off formatting (you'll see the code version of your post), right click on the text area and select all and then copy, that's it.
RitualClarity Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Just click on the top-left button on the menu bar to turn off formatting (you'll see the code version of your post), right click on the text area and select all and then copy, that's it. I imagine you can also use that to make edits to customize the entire post more so than is available with the normal tools on this forum? This is something I might like to look into myself. Thanks for bringing this up Elf prince and you bjornk for answering this. I have just a plain text for my tutorials and other threads and every time I need to restore or something goes wrong I have to copy, paste, then edit the crap out of it to get it to look the way I want.
bjornk Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 If it's a really big post with complex formatting, it would be easier to copy the entire code in your post into your favorite text editor (Notepad++, Crimson Editor etc.) and edit it there. You can then paste the new code back into your message. This (ability to edit BBCode directly) was one of the missing features of the new forum software. I'm glad we've got the old one back.
Guest Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I want you to know that I managed to recover my post using yours "trick" bjornk with digging the site page from history.
RitualClarity Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Great. I am starting to get more used to the Notepad++. Nothing special additional needed to be downloaded to do that with Notepad _++ correct?
bjornk Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 No, nothing else is needed. Crimson Editor is just as good IMO. You can write multiple lines at the same time etc. I've been using it since the late 90s. You can have both of course. While you're at it, get WinMerge. It's another text editor that allows side by side comparison for text files. It can even compare binary files and directories. All three programs are great for modders and gamers who want to tweak their games. You may of course add HxD to the list. I couldn't find a BBCode reference for IPB 3.4 (let me now if you can find one) but you might find the following useful. https://www.phpbb.com/community/faq.php?mode=bbcode

Perhaps you could create a thread for these useful tidbits.. .. anyway just getting use to Notepad++.. Soon I just might make it my default reader as I use it over the standard one.. It is just so much easier to have those lines properly managed. Makes reading bug logs much easier. .. Along with other output files in .txt format.
