Rokabur Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 When is Microshit gonna stop trying to force people to 'upgrade' to Windows 10? Months ago the 'update' that was actually the Get Windows 10 appeared under I think the optional tab of Windows Update. Once I figured out what it was I managed to get rid of it and hid the 'update'. 2 months ago the exact same update now appeared in the recommended tab and stealthily without my knowledge or consent would download the installer and actually try to install Windows 10 when I turned off my PC for the night. After having it try to install Windows 10 at least 8 times without my consent, managed to delete everything and hide the 'update' in the recommended tab. Tonight the update now shows up in the important tab. When is Microshit gonna get the message?

Reepa7 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 lmao, same here. I got rid of the notifications 3 times. Really annoying that they don't have a "No, Don't remind me and stop asking me" option
Rokabur Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 http://www.howtogeek.com/228551/how-to-stop-windows-7-or-8-from-downloading-windows-10-automatically/ Everybody was google -fu fighting except you apparently. Hope it helps. I did do that stuff. I'd remove everything, hide the update, 2 days later the update had been reinstalled stealthily and when I went to turn off my PC there'd be 2 yellow triangles. I'd open Windows Update and there was the 3GB Windows 10 install automatically selected and ready to install without my knowledge. That happened at least 8 times.
vipermagi Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Heh, the fun part is, if you upgrade to Windows 10 Home edition, you don't "officially" get the "opt out" or "hide update" feature, your technically not allowed to skip updates as the Home edition is the supposed testing platform for the Professional and up editions, though any IT worth their salt will tell you that is a dumb way to test. There is a tool available that lets you work around this little "feature," as well as just straight up disabling the entire update service and downloading your updates manually.
junkacc Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 source: https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0 Even XP has more than W10 and 8 is on the increase too. http://news.investors.com/120115-783137-windows-10-migration-stalls-amid-slow-pc-sales-upgrades.htm Anyone who upgraded to the spyware known as W10 for DX12 games will have to wait a loooooooooong time for most game developers to switch. Apart from the handful of games announced more as tech demos than anything else, Win7 is the new XP and DX11 is the new DX9. Then there's Vulcan, which brings all the DX12 features to Win7 and possibly even XP. Microsoft is like Bethesda. IF you chase after the new & shiny you get burnt.
NickNozownik Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I completely disabled windows update years ago because it's useless. You can download everything manually if you need to, and disabling WU isn't dangerous or risky at all. Especially that it doesn't give a damn and keeps downloading Windows 10.
Slorm Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 You could also try this though MS have been trying to disable it apparently. http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/ This is the guide probably good to read first http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html It seems to be well recommended on a number of tech forums Personally I stopped the Win10 updates before they hit my system, but you still have to be vigilant in case MS try to slip one through.
