Molevalence Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I am typing this on my phone so please bare with me. My laptop has been fine for months. Today out of no where I got a blue screen and it restarted. I got to the desktop and was having issues with my Nvidia program/updates/ and configurations. So I planned on removing all my graphic drivers and reinstall them anew. Then I started see my laptop was taking longer to load anything but I was able to manage. Then all my desktop icons dissappeared and only my background remained. Suddenly an error appeared showing something about an error entering sleep mode and a bluescreen appeared again. So I said fuck it and am now going through the process of reformatting EVERYTHING of my laptop and starting anew. This has happend in the past. Not as critical as this but blue screen shutdown and when arriving to desktop only having a few moments before the process repeats. Do I need a new laptop or is this repairable? Do I need to replace my hard drive and can that be done on a laptop? Its a ASUS gsming laptop. Any help would be appreciated. Apologies again just a little drained and distraught over the whole situation.
bjornk Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 No one here can tell you if you need a new laptop or if it's repairable without knowing what the problem is. Getting a blue screen may indicate a driver problem or malfunctioning hardware, possibly GPU or RAM, depending on when the errors occur, it may as well be a problem with your storage devices. If you've already starting reformatting/re-installing then complete the process and see if the problem will come back. If you haven't started reformatting, check the Event Viewer and see if there's any errors or warnings that occurred around the time you got the blue screen, also check the drive for errors and also run SFC /SCANNOW in an elevated command window for possible corruption of system files.
Molevalence Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Finished a fresh format and after windows 7 was installed it did a restart requesting for the boot disk. Running a repair dyagnostic it says this: Name bootmgr Identifier - 9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795
Molevalence Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Update It has now given me this error when I try to load up my laptop: Windows failed to start. (Repair wont work tried countless times says it's not compatible) File: /bootbcd Status 0xc000000f Info - an error occured while arrempting to read the boot configuration data. Im using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit This is so frustrating
Molevalence Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Update. Been talking to a couple friends and explained my situation they say it sounds like a failing hard drive. Well at least now i know the problem. Time to replace it!
bjornk Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Did you erase all existing partitions on the disk before reformatting, including the hidden System partition? Try that, if you haven't done so. Do you have a disk checking utility from the disk manufacturer that runs from its own bootable CD/USB? It may tell you whether or not there's a problem with the disk or with the controller. You may use: Ultimate Boot CD (multiple tools including the ones below) http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Seatools for Seagate drives: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/by-topic/downloads/ WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for WD drives: http://download.wdc.com/dlg/dlgdiag_5_22.zip
Molevalence Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Yes my hard drive had 4 partitions including a primary. I formatted all of them. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. After the formats and installation of windows it got an error so i had to run a repair. Now every time I try to load up the desktop I get that 0x000000f error saying something about how my hard drive cannot read the boot disc. I attempted another format but now there is only one partition and says it cannot install windows as its not compatible. Even running a repair it says the version of windows is different from the one i wish to install which is bullshit because i am using a genuine windows 7 ultimate cd.
bjornk Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Does your system have more than one drive? Is the drive that has the Windows on it set as the boot drive in BIOS? Is it also set as the active partition? You may also want to try these: http://www.wintips.org/repair-windows-7-or-vista-boot-errors-problems/ https://neosmart.net/wiki/0xc000000f/
Molevalence Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 It had 3 partitions and a primary before I formatted. Now it just has a primary but windows kept saying its not compatible. After 2 days of playing doctor I decided to send it into the shop for repairs. I am archiving this post though so if this nonsense ever happens again ill have an idea on what to do. Im getting the hard drive replaced anyway as it was starting to fail. Thank you for the assistance on this matter. This kind of issue was beyond what I know.
bjornk Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Have you checked BIOS settings? I've had a few Asus motherboards in the past that kept resetting their BIOS when they went into sleep mode. If some of the settings related to storage devices in BIOS have changed because of something like this, compatibility issues may arise (like IDE vs. AHCI etc). By the way, replace your CMOS battery if your laptop is three or four years old or older. Good luck, I hope replacing the hard disk solves your problem. I'd recommend keeping a cheap laptop/desktop with a DVD writer in working condition as a backup. If you have any problems with one of them you can use the other for doing research about the problem and for doing other things as well. I also recommend figuring out the problem first while you have the chance, before trying to repair the damage, reformatting & reinstalling should be your last resort. You might find a quicker and simpler solution.

Its in great working condition, cleaned and the only thing wrong with it was the hard drive as it was pretty much done. Nothing wrong with my motherboard, ram, or graphics card I am quite happy with the outcome.
