FPS/Performance Boost

Finally picked up a copy of the game for PC (had been playing it on the console) and I'm finding that it isn't running so well on my computer. I went through the usual and lowered the resolution, tossed out shadowing, and turned off AA but I still saw some choppiness in the game. By the time I get the game "smooth" it looks like a pile of crap.

My computer passes the requirements (I'm in the medium range) and I've played other action games recently on the PC that all ran well so it's frustrating to say the least. Taking a look around Nexus I tried out a handful of performance mods but none of them seemed to do much good. I've also come across the 4GB Ram and SkyBoost mods which sounded the most promising but they are both either dead or no longer available.

Any thoughts or suggestions for mods/tweaks that help boost performance without turning it into an 8bit game?

If you have installed the High Res Texture pack it would be best to remove it. If you could please post your system specs but I have a funnt feeling your computer may not be up to the task.

Didn't install any of the HD packs. Also I'm not in the mood to post my specs because then it turns into a PC pissing contest. I have enough that the game should run at medium settings. I guess thats a cop out but then again maybe I just don't want to hear that my pc isn't good enough.

disabling fxaa worked. I was under the impression that it was less taxing on your system to use that. Guess I was wrong. Thanks for the help.

Still looking for mods tho that will make the game run smoother

I would suggest using Morphological Anti Aliasing if your computer supports it instead of regular AA. Some people may disagree since it's been argued that the visual quality isn't quite as good as regular AA but when I see upwards of 20FPS increases going from regular to Morphological it's hard to argue with it for me.

But then again I'm an FPS whore and I like to stay above 50 at the least.

I've also found that on some computers that aren't quite as powerful it's LESS taxing to increase resolution dramatically with no AA at all than it is to use AA on a shitty resolution. The quality of the game will be largely dependent on the quality of your monitor if you do this however since you'll be lacking AA. However if you can use Morphological AA it's almost pointless not to since it hardly affects framerate.

Skyrim has some serious issues, I run a solid 60 FPS never drops, but still stuttering, It appears that they have set up a triple buffing of the textures before placing them on screen.

Actually in some cases having a slow PC may be a benefit. as you may never reach the frame rate or FPS that makes the blur, and stutters happen.

I have been trying many setting, but with a solid 60 fps,[ which is all the game will let you have because of havoks physic's control, and have things act right on screen.] I still get stutter. It really sucks, and makes the game play annoying.

turning off vsync is a major screw up, because then you get screen tearing. and as I said the havok engine physics start going goofy.

I just get watery eyed playing it for any length of time. it makes it tiresome for me to play it at all.

I am still searching thread's [in many forums] but the problem seems to have no really clear cut fix that I have found yet, as it seems to extend from one graphics card to the next [ and system, and ram, and CPU] just what will fix it. The fix for stuttering on one system does not guaranty it will work on yours.

tweaks done to one graphics card set up may work for them, but they may not work for you. Bethesda sold me a game for 60 buck, and now I have to make it work..It is upsetting.

I am discouraged about it right now.

I might give that one a try greencasidilla. I have tried so many..LOL

I came across this a while ago - FPS Limiter

Could be outdated but worth a try?

Also, jealous of your 60 fps. I run between 25-30 and I too experience stutter, only happened recently maybe with new mod. I could disable alot of things but I love my current build so far and ENB settings xD

that shadow tweak greencasidilla put me on to helped some, but the stutter is still there, not quite a noticeable [it is worst when to look down at the ground while running], I really don't think I need to limit the FPS. I think bethesa just needs to clear a few things up.

They are very slow to update anything that is not costing them money. And some of these problems I am experiencing are Vid card driver problems, but they are there because Bethesda put things in the game that just are not quite right. Now the Vid card makers have to fix them.

Thx U for that link though I will look at it.

sense the last patch I have notice i take a FPS hit if I use this tweak

[Papyrus]

iMinMemoryPageSize=100000

iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000

Add iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000

it may be i need ti increase the iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes as I have 8 gig of Corsair vengence 1600Mhz DDR 3 now.

What i did find was that media player trick seems to help some. the I think called skyrimbooster, I think I found it on nexus. Nothing real noticeable, but seems to help stabilize the stutter.

It is a shame to have a quad core, and skyrim only using it looks like 2 of the cores. the other 2 I think just sit there idle or they seem too.

They just designed this game totally around the console, it seems. It is like the PC gets a hand me down game in many respect's.

I am slowly making it play much better, but it is such a shame that I have to track down, and implement so many things just to get the game to play in a state that is acceptable.

If I bought a new car that had this many teething troubles I would be shoving it up the dealers Wazoo...LOL

I use a Radeon Sapphire 6950. Ever since I replaced my broken 560Ti the game lags and stutters like hell when ever I boot it up. Eventually it just basically turns into screenshots. Been messing around with various things to try and get it to become more stable. I don't mind if I take a small dive in visual quality, but still, hopefully I'll stumble across something that does the job.

Sudden FPS drops are caused by so called CPU bottleneck. Skyrim basically uses CPU more than it should, for example it uses CPU instead of GPU to render shadows. I have the same, when I try to install high quality textures or any ENB. You just need to remove some FPS heavy mods. If you don't have them, then don't use 8x AA, disable FXAA and useless settings (like far render distance for small items).

Also wait for SkyBoost for 1.5, hopefully it will come out soon.
