Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Hi, My Skyrim is crashing a lot. I've tried to solve it with google, and searching forums, and mod forums and such, but I can't identify what is causing the crash. I was hoping someone here could help me. I've read all that I can so far. A. Describe your problem: Are you crashing at start up? Do you have errors on your screen? Are animations not working?- Game is semi-stable. I can create new games, and play for a while (did an hour just then) without crashing. - Occasionally crashes to desktop. - When I try and load a save, it crashes to desktop during the loading window, or shortly after. - I run Loot, Modorganiser, tesvedit, fnis, dual sheath redux, and dyndodlod before creating a new save, and don't alter any mods. - (I have other problems, but they're not as urgent, as they don't cause crashes. Things like dynodlod not seeming to work, and texture problems with the neck seam, but I'll sort those out myself)B. Post your Load Order! Seriously, most problems can be resolved at a glance from one of our forums many guru's, so do everyonea favor and include this in your first post. I've attached this, because when I posted it, loverslab wouldn't let me post. C. Post your utilities and their versions. Examples: SKSE version, FNIS version.Latest SKSE Latest MO Latest FNIS Latest TesVEdit Latest Loot D. Upload a copy of your Papyrus log unedited to your opening post. I've attached them. They're for CTD while trying to load a save. I can start a new game and try and provide a log where I play for longer before it crashes if that helps. Thank you for any help. loadorder.txt Papyrus.0.log Papyrus.1.log Papyrus.2.log Papyrus.3.log
MadokM Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I have the same problem, I think it is because system cannot hanndle all scripts when save is loaded.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 Have you had any luck with finding a fix? Or do I just need to cut down on the number of mods I'm running?
sativa Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 my ctd's were mostly a skeleton/animation prob,if you have changed the skeleton for a body mod try XPMSE skeleton. another ctd prob by me was the Safety Load plugin for SKSE,by removing this plugin the ctd's are gone.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I'm using XPMSE skeleton, I'll try disabling the safety load plugin for SKSE, thanks for the tip. Edit: No luck. Still crashing.
sativa Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 maybe disabling heavy script mod's like wet&cold,playerheadtracking,footsteps... try ssme http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/?
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I think the new SKSE doesn't need SSME. From the mod description - "If you're using the new build of SKSE that has support for changing the memory allocation values, you don't need SSME." I'll try disabling web&cold, but I don't have headtracking or footsteps mods. Edit - No luck with disabling wet&cold. Is my best option at this stage to turn mods on and off until I find what is causing crashes?

Is my best option at this stage to turn mods on and off until I find what is causing crashes? This is not entirely true. You indeed don't need SSME anymore but you do need the SKSE.ini file that activates the memory patch. I have included the ini in an attached file. Go to your Skyrim data folder and Find your SKSE folder. Place the INI file there and there you go. You can check if it is working or not by using the memory blocks log, but it should be alright. If you don't have an SKSE folder for some reason you can just make the folder yourself. INI settings-51038-1-1.rar
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I've already got the skse.ini in both: steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\skse and steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer\mods\SKSE Unfortunately, no effect. Thank you for the advice though.

Thank you for the advice though. Have you checked the patch be working? You could try the memoryblocks log from nexus. Or perhaps you could increase the first memory block heap size in the ini.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I have my ini file as: [Memory] DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768 ScrapHeapSizeMB=256 As for testing whether it's working - I can't get the memoryblockslog.log to create. I've installed it in the skyrim directory, and through MO, but it doesn't create. I'll keep trying to find out why. Thanks for the help.

It was about a line that made the log appear in the data folder. If you set it to false it will create the log somewhere else. I did that and now I find it in my overwrite folder. Maybe this works for you too.
myuhinny Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 CTD trying to load a save is a common problem with skyrim but you can almost always bypass it by using this trick. Load your game when it gets to the new game/load screen open the console with the ~ key and type in coc qasmoke this will warp you to the games test cell then from there click the button and bring up the load screen and select the save you are trying to load it should load up unless the save is royally screwed up. The more script type mods you have to higher the chance you get that you will CTD when trying to load a save but the trick above can usually bypass it.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 It's probably not a great sign if I crash while loading into the coc quasmoke cell right? It's a great tip though, I suspect that once I fix the underlying problem, I'll use it to fix some new, as yet undiscovered problems @Deathtecon Still no luck with this, I suspect I just need to keep fiddling with it to figure out how it works. Thanks Papyrus while loading coc qasmoke, if that helps. Papyrus.0.log
myuhinny Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 If you are CTDing using the COC qasmoke from the new game load screen then it could be a male race body or skeleton issue because when you warp there from the main screen your player is by default set to a male character. Try reinstalling whatever race you are using and the skeleton maybe something overwrote something. I see one that might be the culprit that is causing it to crash when using the COC trick and that is Schlongs of Skyrim because SOS comes with it's own skeleton if you overwrite it with a different skeleton it can cause a CTD if that skeleton that overwrote is isn't compatible with SOS. So try reinstalling SOS and make sure nothing overwrites it.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 I've reinstalled SOS, still crashing on coc qasmoke. I'm not using a custom race. Should I be? Thanks so much for the help myuhinny
myuhinny Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Maybe try coc riverwood instead of qasmoke there might be something in the testinghall that is causing it.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 No luck, crashed after about a second in town. I think I might just have to start with a clean install
myuhinny Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Well if you do a reinstall make sure to delete everything from your skyrim folder to make sure nothing is left over to mess with your new install then uninstall it from steam then reinstall it back. Then watch what you install so that you can try to avoid problems again.
Tie_me_tess Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 I have a quick question - if I'm crashing after a few seconds, is that likely due to a script, mod conflict, or something else?
Grimbold the unlovely Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 One solution I have found for CTDs on loading (not in game) is this: keep an early save game that is small in size. Load that one first, then load your current game from within that already loaded small game. In other words, load the big game in two steps. 1) Load the small game from the initial Skyrim main menu 2) Once the small save game has loaded, load the save you really want to play. Using this two-step method (the "Grimbold method") I am able to load very large save games that would otherwise crash on load. Addendum: If you don't have a small save handy, start a new game (worth doing) so you have a launch pad game. I have no idea how this works or why, but it just does. Time after time. It's a godsend.
iCallisto Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Probably not the reason for your issue, but worth mentioning. Your load order for the USKP is incorrect. After installing the individual mods, the following general load order needs to be followed:SkyrimUpdateUnofficial Skyrim PatchDawnguardUnofficial Dawnguard PatchHearthfiresUnofficial Hearthfire PatchDragonbornUnofficial Dragonborn Patch[Your other ESM files]HighResTexturePack01HighResTexturePack02HighResTexturePack03Unofficial High Resolution Patch[The rest of your mods]
