Joomla Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 i have for long now been thinking that style of games i usually see as started by dayz are starting have too much variety on market and it made me think why hasnt there been good single player variant of these games. the most close one would be S.T.A.L.K.E.R games but why just one series has even tried anything like this? sure we can argue that some games take some form of step on this way including games like project zomboid but then again they arent what i mean as "good" single player variant. good one would require bit more set gameplay not completely open game without any story or interaction with anything than enemies. taking S.T.A.L.K.E.R to topic again those games showed perfectly what i wanted from the game i am talking about. it should be harsh and unforgiving but at the same time welcoming people who are ready to take on the challenges and then rewarding them. market for multiplayer only (like dayz) or simply multiplayer with 1 player limit (like ark is) is already done so what you think of these more single player more story focused games with elements sort of from dayz ark and rust?
Safira Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Well if u dont get to close with graphics u should try minecraft ^^ Its really great with mods. U should not play straight forward games like stalker or Metro. They are deeply depressing XD
...0... Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Stalker is comeplete different game at time with first game i loved it and enjoy it alot. DayZ which failed for me in so many ways(i have played mod+standalone for more then 1500+ hours). ARK survival evolved for me perfect sandbox survival(only hardcore official for me it's very harsh but i love it, btw rest of server types sucks for me i hate private servers). Solo is nice option. Myself i can't almost play non open worlds anymore i need the freedom(blame bethesda for that ). It all comes down to prefference and taste. I would love seeing a kind of stalker sandbox game ala ARK.
Coopervane Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 There aren't more singleplayer survival games because it's harder to develop. To pull that off you need good AI and a lot of good content to play through, whereas with multiplayer, having other people there somewhat helps create that content and interesting events all on their own, human intelligence at work and all that. Survival games are a desperation genre, mostly beeing tapped by small indie developers, and pretty much all the games in the genre are still stuck in "early access" or similar, so yeah, that's the trouble with it. If a good SP survival game does come out though, i'd definately be onboard with that.
...0... Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Dissagree because DayZ major failing don't mean survival or EA are desperate attemp to sell some games ARK ahve proof that by now. I hae never seen in 15 years online gaming so much dedication by developer and there game. It's just unbalievable how many patches content and constant improvement ARK devs come up with every week. From launch they work there ASSES OFF to make ARK a experience you want to keep playing. It's almost sin'ds launch in top 5 games on steam and i don't see this change anytime soon. It maybe EA but its way better developed then MAJORITY OF AAA games.
Coopervane Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 No, clearly you don't understand the term. A "desperation genre" describes a genre of game that people desperately want, but which they are not currently getting. It's not a derogatory term, it just means there's a demand, but no supply. Survival is a genre that people really want right now, but it's lacking good games. Ergo it is a desperation genre, and it will remain a desperation genre untill there are several good games within the genre to fully fill the demand. Ark is probably the closest we've come to one that's in a fairly good and playable state and looks like it may get finished, this beeing the entire reason it's still in the top played list on Steam despite it not even beeing done yet. People want it, even if it's still in Alpha, they want it. Ark is not what the OP was asking for though, Ark is multiplayer, the OP is asking for singleplayer.
Coopervane Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 And there we are again with Minecraft! That's probably the closest you'd come to SP survival at the moment, yeah. With some good mods installed, it might not be a bad option either.
ScorpiusX Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I enjoy a good survival game, I have played DayZ Standalone for well over 600 hours. I've been playing Ark recently too, both online and single player. DayZ had so much promise, yet the only thing that is consistantly delivered by the devs is broken content, and content that was previously working being broken. The worst part about DayZ, for me, though was that there was no incentive for players to co-operate. Ark ticks that box in spades as far as I'm concerned, and the development pace is lightning fast compared to DayZ, it doesn't hurt that Ark looks fantastic too (aslong as you don't look at other players). There is one thing with both of these games that does annoy me and that is a lack of story/backstory (although the Ark devs have said that is something they're working on). That leads me to my favourite survival game (when its modded to be a survival game), yup its called SKYRIM!! There are some great mods out there that fit quite well into the survival genre, Frostfall, Wet & Cold, Realistic Needs & Diseases (or iNeeds) just to name a few. Then theres some mods that just plain make things harder. Then of course theres all these "interesting" mods here on Loverslab. I personally find I can tailor my Skyrim experience to suit quite a lot of my gaming needs, and its all thanks to the hard work of the modders at places like here and the Nexus. I owned Skyrim for more than a year before I put more than 2 hours of gameplay into it, simply because I find vanilla Skyrim so UGLY!!!!!! Then one day I happened across a modded Skyrim vid on Youtube and I couldn't believe it was the same game. Since then I've been hooked, first by mods on Nexus, then by both the community and mods here at Loverslab, and have now invested more than 2000 hours into playing Skyrim, which makes it the 3rd most played game i have (the original Guild Wars is 1st with over 8000 hours of playtime, and the X-Universe games rank 2nd with approx 5000 hours EACH - god i need a life). So to all you modders out there Thankyou! Now gimme back my life
Jeffrey Lane Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Didnt see anyone mention this game, & days to Die ( http://7daystodie.com/ ) it's more minecraft with zombies then most of the other games, but it's still in it's alpha stage, but the guys behind it are working on it as best they can (small studio) they are making progress with it and not too long ago switched to teh Unity 5 engine over 4, so they had to relearn a little. i have enjoyed it quite a bit.

Jeffrey Lane Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 yea, they are putting a good amount into A13, it will be a good time sink with all the new stuff. i just hope they dont drop it once i really get into fallout 4. lol.
