Help edit Nylea standalone follower? Personal use!

See the spoiler picture, I changed the eyes to full blue (the shade I want) and removed the warpaint by editing the facetint in Gimp.

What I want to do is change the hair color, that style's fine! I want it to be a kind of dark or medium purple.

And get rid of the elf ears, and especially lighten the skin! That's too orange in my game.

The problem is, as with most modern (and nice!) followers, I can't edit her in Creation Kit.

She loses her face entirely, and defaults to some vanilla face.

I need a way to edit all these things outside of the Creation Kit, and I don't plan on uploading anywhere!

This is for personal use in my Skyrim only. She has the perfect face for a character I want to take screens of.

Any ideas?

The best method for the hair color you want would be to go in game and mess with the hair slider color in showracemenu and find a purple color that you want and write down the RGB color values, then do the rest in CK.

  1. Open CK, select your NPC esp, set as active and click OK.
  2. Under Object Window in the filter type haircolor then scroll down the list and select all.
  3. Double lick on any of the hairs. Duplicating doesn't work so it's important to change the Editor ID beforehand, Then set the RGB values you wrote down. Click OK once done.
  4. Click on HairColorList and drag the new hair color Editor ID you created inside. Scroll to the bottom and it will appear. Click OK once done. You can also delete in the filter what you typed in step 2.
  5. Make sure you know what race your follower is because now you need to scroll back up the list in Object Window and select Race under Character. Expand it if it's not already and you'll see Race.
  6. Double click on the race your follower is and make sure you tick the box that applies to Female.
  7. Go to Face Data and where it shows Available Hair Colors, right click in the list and select New. Add the hair Editor ID you created and then click OK.
  8. Now go to Actors and find your NPC and open the window and go all the way to Character Gen Parts. Where it says Hair Color look for the hair you added and click OK.

The hair color should now be on that follower and you can go ahead and save it.

The only thing I can think of for changing the ears is turning the follower into a playable character to be able to swap the ears and exporting the new version and using that for the follower instead. And if you are going to go through with that. I probably would suggest you do that before doing the whole hair color thing.

But you're just giving me a list of things to do in the Creation Kit @_@

I know how to add a custom ColorForm to the HairColorList, and then add it to the appropriate race under Character->Race

Can you unzip her folder and find the hair's texture files? If so then open those files in GIMP or PhotoShop and paint them the color you want.

Very simple! There is a textures -> actors -> character -> hair path, YES! \o/

Thanks so much, if I wasn't so dumb I'd have thought of that

Now I'm left with the skin and ears. Skin's WAY too orange.

Ears are way too pointy. The femalehead.nif has normal human ears.

They aren't attached to the hair either o_O I have no idea where these elf ears are coming from!

For the body in the same character folder mentioned above, there's just that default femalebody_1.dds

It's only a slightly different color, should I lighten it? It seems more drastic in Skyrim than the texture folder x_x

Left is Nylea body, right is the default body in my Skyrim.

So.. tints? FaceGenData -> FaceTint-> Nylea.esp. Textures in that folder don't affect the skin, do they?  :(

Could I lighten the femalehead.dds that only looks slightly pinker than the normal femalehead.dds??

I've just traded out the entire texture sets with some followers. That way I get what I want. You should be able to adjust the color in PS or GIMP, though. I don't see why not.

As for the ears, are they in the meshes folder?

I think I figured out everything but the ears. I found the ears in the facegendata facegeom folder!

I don't know what the heck to do with it in nifskope. I only know how to add extra nistring data for Havok and .xml files

And twirl the mesh around real pretty  That's about it. Can the ears even be removed in nifskope and replaced with normal ears?

The ears are a part of the head. Sometimes, people put special ears over the vanilla ones, but in this case it looks like they changed the shape of the actual ears. Apart from changing them back in a 3d modelling program, I think the only way to change it is to use the Import feature that's a part of RaceMenu by Expired. If you mask the ears before you import the head you found in the face geometry folder, it will prevent them from becoming pointy. Then, you can export the head and replace the one that comes with the mod.

Ugh, I can't do anything right.  :( It worked, but the result was terrible.

She lost the shape and defaulted to the vanilla face bug that I have if I edit her in Creation Kit.

Her face browned, and hair lost the Gimp edit and defaulted to some strange coloring.

The exported .nif file doesn't have the hair that was hovering above from the imported file.

So that may be the reason for the hair coloring problem, but the face and skin? I'm confused!

v- the masking, everything seemed to be going so well. unnecessary viewing, maybe? -v

Can't do custom voices, can't even edit existing NPCs. I'm a complete failure, yay.

If there's something about the NIF the game doesn't like, it will refuse to read it and try to create one based on the information in the plugin i.e. ugly vanilla face.

Well, you had everything working except the ears, right? What I would do then, is use NPC Nif Merge to put your RaceMenu exported head onto the everything-works-except-the-ears-are-pointy mesh. It makes the same type of part replacement that you can do in Nifskope, it's just a lot easier. It's what I used before I knew how to do it in Nifskope without breaking it, and I still use it a lot because it's just faster.

Basically, you run the executable and get the little window. On the left side (source) you drag and drop your RaceMenu exported face. On the right side (target) you drag and drop the EWETEAP face. Check the femalehead and use the drop box to pick the source, which is also probably femalehead. And click 'Merge to Target.' You can also check other parts if you made adjustments to them in RaceMenu. Otherwise, I wouldn't mess with them. Especially the hair, if it's causing you trouble.

If you'd prefer not use NPC Nif Merge, you can also replace just the head in Nifskope. You open up both heads, delete the femalehead in EWETEAP (remove block), and then copy and paste (the block) femalehead from your RM face into EWETEAP. But you have to make sure all the settings are correct, and they probably won't be by default.
