Jeffrey Lane Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Ok, so my game was playing fine, a few random ctds, nothing too major. but just now as i go to lauch the game again, none of my saves will load that i was just playing an hour ago. this isnt the first time this has happened tho, my past 2 characters have meet this same fate. Other then a Skyui update today, nothing has changed about my mods or the load order, nothing added or removed at all this whole playthru. all mods have been Cleaned with TES5, they have all been thru Loot and they have been bashed (even used a save cleaner to try and fix it). the only thought i have is that it must be a mod causing this, but which one? anyone have any idea what could be causing it? this is really killing the game for me. Blackness blackness is... Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 a little advice before i go. try to always keep a safe save as reserve for worst case scenarios of script overflow. best place to make on is probably the starting cell of lal. because sooner or later if we keep adding heavier mods we might end up into such a situation. and this is probably the only thing that can save you then. when done whenever you notice a save failing to load, just load that safe cell first and the preferred save right after. it will barely take away any time.
Jeffrey Lane Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 that can actually work? i do keep a save file, from a unmodded game that is just before character creation, should work too?
NickNozownik Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 You can use Savegame Script Scalpel to see active scripts. There's a good chance that active (or OnLoad) script is messing up all of your saves. I had the same problem with Action Combat. Load your save in SSS, wait for analisis to finish and terminate active threads. If you won't find out what mod is causing problems then at least you'll be able to load your save.
Guest Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 When this happen I start a new game and then load the save. I don't know why it works but it never failed me
Lantera Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 This happens a lot for me. The method 'The MC emo girl' suggests works great, I always save the very first save of a playthrough (the LAL one in the Abandoned Prison, after you create a character) to revert to when I find my saves not loading. Once you load that save, you should then be able to load your normal game and play for another few hours... but you will probably have to repeat this process every once in a while. If you have no fresh save ready, you can always start a new game (assuming you use LAL), just create a character with a default face and use that save only for recovering your other saves.

You don't really need to keep a spare save for this, you can just open the console while in the main menu and type coc ctest (this is a tiny test cell that loads quickly), then load your save from there.
Jeffrey Lane Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 tried all that been listed so far, nothing has worked yet. the scalped had a error everytime i ran it, but in the log that showed up it did say something was corrupted, but couldnt tell what it was. but, i did find a auto save from maybe. 30-60 minutes before my last save that worked and loaded.. only thing tho, what can i do to keep this from happening again?
NickNozownik Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Did you click on "Remove Unattached Instances" and "Terminate Active Threads"? It should automatically create a new cleaned copy of the save file called "EDIT". Loading it still causes a CTD? Can you post your papyrus log here if this will happen again? It will help others to figure out what is causing a CTD.
