Blank dialogues (...) for some NPCs

For some time now I have this bug-ish thing with some NPCs that prevents me from talking to them.

They have three periods dialogue greeting and that prevents me from completely interacting with them.

Also all follower commands such as "I need you to trade something." also begins with such an empty dialogue, except the usual line follows after.

 

Honestly, I have no idea what causes it since I don't have any follower mods active.

I do not think that is a load order problem.

 

It occurs in Fallout, also. Something breaks the dialog pointer in the game and it can not find the proper greeting dialog. I guess the (...) response is better than the game freezing.

 

I have found that a complete reload of the game fixes the problem, but I have not tried using the old save because it maybe corrupted. Not sure if Wrye Mash or Bash or what ever detects and fixes the problem as I have not used it since Morrowind.

Three empty dots for the player to start a conversation means that there is a dialogue without a valid prompt (an empty prompt).

The conditions of the dialogue are good, but probably the line was not supposed to start in this way.

 

A few possibilities:

1) An entry dialogue line got lost, and the other dialogue lines are not a starting topic

2) The dialogue was supposed to be started through a ForceGreet

3) The [hiding] conditions do not met anymore

I do not think that is a load order problem.

I'm 100% sure it's a mod, because I run a localized version of the game and follower dialogues are in english - at least the text.

You have a pretty long list of mods...

Here a sub-list that MAY have impacts on dialogues. Try to disable them and check.

Do it before in big bunches (10 mods or more), then when you find a batch that is causing the problem, enable/disable the mods individually.

I removed from your list the mods that have no dialogues. Maybe there are others, but I don't know all of them.

Huh, wouldn't have thought about Sexlab Defeat.

Even more so, because all I had to do was to re-enable it right after quitting the game.

 

It seems the follower part is caused by a different mod, however, but that's not as game breaking issue.

 

 

A bit offtopic: is there a way to figure out which faction two NPCs or PC/NPC share?

Because dragons refuse to attack me, unless provoked and SameFaction command says PC and dragons(at least Blood ones) share faction.

I just discovered that if you're having that issue (in my case it is also triggered by SL Defeat [thanks for finding that out ]) all you have to do is tap the "options" key (defined in SL defeat's MCM) and select Clean Up, the clean-up option that says it will clean up actors in the same "room" you are in. That completely gets rid of the issue, which is good because not even disabling/re-enabling the NPC was helping.
