Joomla Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 so i just quitted round of battlefield (was pretty nice report here http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/624052306814573056/795081545/) but then i started derping around internet and THIS started to happen i know its some sort of graphics card glitch but is there anyway i can fix it without restarting my pc?
Content Consumer Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 In our lab, we have this happen occasionally with some of our older graphics cards. The cause is unknown... updating the drivers sometimes fixes it, but only for a short time, and then it happens again. Sometimes rolling back the drivers fixes it. Again, only temporarily. We blamed it on overheating a couple of times, but the cards rarely get above 70 degrees, so that can't be it either. Restarting sometimes fixes it, sometimes not. You could try all of those solutions, (cool down, restart, update drivers, rollback drivers). One of them might be the issue.

That's weird. I don't think there's anything like a reset for the graphics card, but it might be there in some odd off-brand card maybe... Since the issue seems to disappear after a while, it might be something still running in the background. Have you tried opening the task manager and seeing what services are running that shouldn't be?

jfraser Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Not to sound like a typical help desk call, but how about rebooting? A pain in the ass if you have to do so every time you play, but then the screen is a pain in the ass too...

If you're getting that randomly, you are probably experiencing something more sinister going on. To be clear, "sinister" doesn't mean "will kill my computer," just "is annoying as fuck" (usually). Not to sound like a typical help desk call, but how about rebooting? A pain in the ass if you have to do so every time you play, but then the screen is a pain in the ass too... That'd be my suggestion. Your OP asked if there was a way to fix it without restarting, so I guess the answer is... no? Not unless you want to do some serious messing around. It could be software. It could be hardware. It could be the vengeful spirits of slain COD players past, come to haunt your PC, yea, unto the seventh generation.

Captain Cobra Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Do you have any other graphics cards, or integrated motherboard graphics? Try testing it out on them, to see if you can replicate the results.

Try testing it out on them, to see if you can replicate the results. i have integrated graphics on motherboard but im only connected to my gtx 760. i did read that someone said in device management place i can restart to graphics card by disabling enabling it but that seemed bit risky way to do it. i always stop battlefield 4 with task manager because exit game leaves it to linger. i know that windows can restart my graphics card (randomly message graphics card crashed and it was restarted appears with only few seconds black screen) The crash message and restart should only occur if there's a critical error. Userper Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Used to get this a few times, though its probably not the same cause. Mine was caused by static build up, I drained my bios battery and cleaned out my machine and it seemed work fine.
