Unusual missing kf file message

Nothing unusual to add to my report. Only load order changes are related to a couple of pose mods recently installed, but on second thought, the game started fine (without the warning) until a month ago. I didn't play Oblivion for some time, and suddenly the problem cropped up today.

I'm not even sure what is the .ini file mentioned in the message. Could it be a 48_Motion.ini? There is no trace of such file in the standard LAPF package, and not even in LoversCreatures.

Woah... is 84.kf not 48, which is indeed pesent in LAPF. Why some files could have disappeared remains a mistery, perhaps because of HD failures (I'm having some reports of bad sectors and lowered performances, included the infamous fallback from DMA to PIO mode). I need a new HD soon.

I will try restoring the kf files from the original package and see if that solves the problem (for now).

EDIT

Just as I suspected. Trying to overwrite the files for 84_Motion returns this message:

"Impossible to copy 84_DefMotionx2. Ciclic Redundancy Check Error".

Any ideas?

At least I identified the 4 files missing:

84_DefMotionx2.kf, 84_DefMotionx3.kf, 84_OffMotionx0.kf, 84_OffMotionx1.kf

Any attempt to overwrite these files triggers the CRC Error. Perhaps a chkdsk command will fix the errors. Will try that.

UPDATE

Running the checkdisk utility from the command prompt

C:> chkdsk C: /f /r

(and answering Y to planning the check on reboot) revealed lots of errors, as expected (the above files among them) and claimed to having them corrected. Surprisingly, after the reboot the files still cannot be overwritten. This time, the error message says: "the directory or file is damaged or unreadable". After the ritual internet search, I found this article:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/delete_undeletable_file.htm

Sadly, this method doesn't work either.

I guess I have no choice but backing up my data, buying a new HD and reinstalling everything before things get worse.

This post may remain, someone could have better luck with the solutions proposed.

There's really no end to bad luck... even one of my favorite animations vanished.

I wonder what could happen if I cycle through the positions and reach the one that's missing. Oblivion crashes or the anim is simply skipped?

I will test, but I doubt I can leave my system in these conditions for long.

Damn, I hate when I have to reinstall everything from scratch, but this time is inevitable.

If all files are vanished it simply skip to the next ani. But if the ini still exist and some kf are missing you will get a error message .

I see. So, removing the ini file will also avoid the message at startup.

I'm doing one last attempt at deleting and then restoring the corrupted files, this time through a freeware utility named Unlocker. I will post the results later.

If a Mod use a specific ani number and the ini is missing you still get error Messages.

That's why I always fill all 200 human-human ani numbers. LAPF has 146 ? or some more, and I fill all missing numbers with "Daedra Sutra" or old "Revised BBB 11-200 Animations Pack" anis.

Thumbs up for Unlocker! The files have been deleted upon reboot (after a new scandisk) and I've been able to restore them to full glory. No more annoying message, and the anim should work now. I should replace the HD all the same of corse.

fejeena, I'm not sure I understand how to conciliate those two statements:

If all files are vanished it simply skip to the next ani. But if the ini still exist and some kf are missing you will get a error message

If a Mod use a specific ani number and the ini is missing you still get error Messages

Possible scenarios: (let's narrow it down to my case, only LAPF + Creatures animations installed and no other animation mods except pose mods)

1. ini file is present, some kf are missing

2. ini file is present, all the files are missing

3. both ini file and all kf files are missing

I get errors for sure, but at which stage?

An INI file (or code within a script) will call a .kf file, either generally (any) or specifically/explicitly.

In the first case it will do as fejeena stated and look for any; then the next (and the next , and the next...) possible .kf file in the folder or path location specified. I'm not sure if this will throw an error message if none are found, I'm assuming it does.

In the second case a specific .kf file is being called by the INI (or code within a script) and when it cannot find that exact .kf file in the location specified, it throws an error message.

And a corrupted file is essentially a file that cannot be read and run, so that too may throw an error message. So, just because something is present doesn't mean it is valid. In the case of corrupted hard drives or bad sectors it is best to replace that hard drive with a new one. Otherwise you risk more issues and errors later. Sometimes you can move existing data from a bad sector to a good one, and have that bad sector blocked from being used, but that too poses some risk.

Yes like varenne said.

So if "both ini file and all kf files are missing" or "only the ini is missing" no error message if you cycle through the positions . No ini  = it skip to the next ini/Animation. Only if a Mod script want to use the specific ani/ini number you will get a missing ani meassege.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the animations that have objects in them, mostly due to that in most of the animations that contain them, they aren't really needed (Like theres an position where the woman and man are laying on the floor and there's are random couch in front of them, they don't interact with the couch at all it's just...there.).

And I don't know if this is just me but there's this glitch where the object doesn't disappear when you change animations, so it stays there and when you finish have sex it sticks to your character :/

Do you have LoversAnimObjectsPriority to the bottom of your load order? Like this:

<every other mod>

...

LoversIdleAnimsPriority.esp

LoversAnimObjectsPriority.esp

Could also be a problem with the default idle not restoring properly after the anim, but I cannot imagine the cause.

"couch in front of them" ? newer saw that Animation .

And never had Problems with not disappearing funiture.

I had Problems with the old Lovers Version as all funiture were in the LoversAnimObjectsPriority bsa, the funiture does not shown up.

I unpacked the bsa and Problems gone.

That reads like a mismatched LoversAnimObjectsPriority.esp (and maybe LoversIdleAnimsPriority.esp)  vs. your installed animations.

You can review the screen captures provided in the Daedra Sutra and replace those with pillory for ones without them, but your issue IMO requires a complete review and rebuild of your LPK setup.

All animations that I have that have pillory objects the animations do interact with them, so something is definitely fubared.
