Pickpay Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I spent dozen of hours trying to fix this. Here's a little background : http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2910489-need-to-load-skyrim-3x-before-i-can-actually-get-in-the-game/ If someone could help me would be much appreciated.
RandomOne Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Try starting with a good save then loading in game the problem one. That almost always works for me. that is unless it was a save made while crashing then it wouldnt be complete and its toast.
Guest Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 This problem is as ubiquitous as the dreaded infinite load screen used to be. The most commonly successful temporary work around is to go into qasmoke as soon as Skyrim is running, then load your save from there. You've got some flavour of the Sheson memory patch up and running now (I wouldn't run Safety Load along with that btw), it's set up for 512/256 for block 1 and 2 and you've got logs to prove it's assigning them correctly, and you've configured ENBoost (sans graphic post-processing?) for total available vram as per the figure reported in your dxdiag? For what it's worth my personal take on the memory patch is that it's just giving Skyrim more opportunities to trip over it's own stupid feet. We've essentially exchanged the ILS problem for more in your face crashes. So the memory patch doesn't prevent this issue, ENBoost doesn't, running a pristine Skyrim install folder via MO doesn't, optimising textures won't, Save Game Scalpel won't, LOOT won't, neither will a bashed patch or a TES merged patch. All good things to do obviously, but none are a magic bullet. If I was going to take a punt at the likely culprit I'd say it's likely to be script load, you've got some squabbling among themselves for dominance. That ought to be reflected in your Papyrus logs, and it'll very often manifest when you have got the game to load, as a performance issue as the engine begins to choke on itself. You've probably got some hard choices to make fella. About what mods you keep, whether you're prepared to accept the loss of some game progress in trying to clean up their mess etc. For the sake of your save game's long term health you might consider rolling up your sleeves and getting elbow deep in the bowels of the CK, via the wonderful TES5edit. Getting to grips with it's inner workings is the single most empowering way of getting your game to behave imho, along with keeping modding proclivities on a tighter leash....yeah right, who am I kidding?
funnymotion Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 What about Mods? Have you installed anything and saved with it? Last night I Installed and used Halo's Pinup Poser on a test profile in Mod Organizer. When I came back this morning to load the save I made, I got two CTD's instantly after the load screen and entering in-game. I deleted the save and reverted back to a previous one and now I'm trying to figure out if it's related to Pinup Poser. Sometimes you can install a mod and play for hours and make several saves in that time and later you might not know what could cause a CTD on loading up a save game later.
Swissenergy Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Going off of what was said above, CTD upon loading saves from the main menu is often a result of too many script heavy mods all trying to load at once in too large a cell. Loading saves from small interior cells with few or no other actors will sometimes load on the first try. Another way, again already mentioned above, that works very well is to open the console from the main menu screen and type: coc qasmoke This will take you to a interior test cell where you can from there, load up other saves without usually any complications. On very, very rare occasions I've had my game crash when loading the test cell but never has it crashed when I've loaded it twice in a row. If your game is still constantly crashing from the test cell, it's most likely a mod conflict or you just simply have too many script heavy mods for the game too efficiently handle.
RandomOne Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I use alternate start - live another life, i set up my chr in the prison cell and save then use that save to start skyrim whenever my current save gets wonky. I currently use 245 mods so needless to say script load can get heavy.
Pickpay Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Thank you all for your suggestions. So I tested with coc qasmoke from the main menu and so far it works. I can't figure out what previous save would be stable I might have to go too far back so I'll use the above workaround instead. I'm not a modder (never used the CK) so I don't think I'll be able to clean up the game my self more than following the basic tutorial for TES5Edit . I had disabled post-processing at that point as a recommendation from another player. I uninstalled SafetyLoad. At least now I have a better understanding of what's going on and what not to do in the future. As a side note : I've been playing Skyrim over a few years mostly on this save so it has gone through a lot of mods (added/removed). Yes I know very slow progress for having started years ago But I wouldn't want to start over after this long. For me the current state of my Skyrim is the result of hundreds of hours spent researching and fine tuning the game (a lot for the ENB but not only). Any ides to boost my framerate ?
Shadowscale Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 If you've your save had mods on it saved then you later removed it your file might be starting to corrupt. While it may not 100% fix it you should try running a save game cleaner to make sure any old mod didn't leave any scripts on it. Its recommended to not remove any mods from a save file unless you plan to start over since it can cause instability in your save.
