Graphics card doesn't seem to be used on new TV / New speakers not working either

I bought a new Insignia 1080p HDTV, but when I turned it on, it looked like it was using the Intel GPU instead of my NVIDIA GTX 650ti. Graphics are very low. I checked settings and I don't know why it looks like this. I downloaded and installed the newest driver just to try to trick it into using the NVIDIA GPU, but it looks exactly the same.

 

Also, I bought a Logitech z506 5.1 6-channel surround sound speaker set, but it doesn't seem to work. I have my HDMI plugged into the NVIDIA card.

 

Why won't anything work anymore? I didn't have this problem with my old Insignia 1080p HDTV, or my old Logitech 5.1 surround speakers. WTF? I did nothing different during installation, and for some reason, it "recommended" 1920 x 1080 this time, instead of 1680 x 1050, like it did last time. 1680 x 1050 is what a 55" 1080p TV w/HDMI is supposed to use, but it doesn't seem to agree.

 

How do I get my PC to use all of the right stuff? It only seems to use it's own stuff instead of Logitech speakers and my NVIDIA GPU.

Also, how do you know that Intel Graphics is being used and not Nvidia? The display should look pretty much the same. Or no?

As for my GPU thing, there is a dramatic difference in the way my PC looks with my NVIDIA being used, instead of the computer's default graphics processor. Looks like ass right now, and updating the driver made the screen go black, and then pop back up, as it normally would, only it looked just as bad. Sucks. Guess I'll try rebooting or something. Messing with tons of NVIDIA options doesn't seem to give me any sort of progress. Haven't tried to play a game yet, but I suspect it'll look like ass too.

You should try playing a game. It will atleast tell if the card is working well along with your new T.V.

Played DBX, and it didn't look too good. Skyrim looked okay, but I have shitloads of hi-rez texture mods, so that's not really legit. Guess I should try WWE 2K15. That would be probably the best judge of graphics.

If you are able to run Hi-Rez textures on Skyrim without any issues then I am sure it's your card working on it.

Is it even possible to get a video signal from your Intel GPU through the HDMI socket on your NVidia card? (Genuine question, not being sarcastic or anything)

 

I've disabled my Intel GPU from BIOS and uninstalled the drivers, better that way if you're not going to use it.

That's a good question. I have it plugged into the NVIDIA, that's for sure, but even my desktop looks low rez. Pixles everywhere.  for example, your profile pic of the elf looks like it was taken from X-box 360. Lot of difference between 360 graphics and PC graphics on a 1080p HD.

I'm chalking this one up to my HDMI cable. It's pretty basic, but it's the one I used before, so....wtf. Anyway, if I try a better HDMI and that isn't any better, I'll investigate more. Right now, it looks like 720p, not 1080p.

New HDMI did not work. It's not the HDMI. NVIDIA wants to Optimize games to 1920x1080, which would leave some things cut off. It should say 1680x1050. What the hell is going here?

Doesn't your TV display the resolution and the frequency of the signal it gets? In an info menu or something?

Okay, here's what I think is going on here:

 

I switched my computer back to the "recommended" 1920x1080 resolution. It cut all of my taskbar icons off the screen, just as I knew it would. Then I used NVIDIA to change the resolution to 1680x1050, like I used on my last TV.  It looked fine. This TV seems to be Optimized at 1920x1080, yet it doesn't translate too well with my computer. I don't know why.

 

So, the NVIDIA card did the resizing, and I have no doubt it's working. I know this because after manually changing the rez to 1680x1050, things looked good again, but a large chunk of the top and bottom of the screen was removed (black), meaning only 1920x1080 will fully fit the screen, even for my games. The Desktop, however, needs 1680x1050 rez. Just so confusing...

 

This means that, even though I am using a 1080p HDTV, like the last one, it has a larger screen, regardless of the fact that they are both considered 55" LED 1080p HDTVs. It will still use 1080p, but it being stretched to a larger size, meaning pixelation will be more evident. I suppose all I need to do is play games in 1680x1050, and pretend I don't see the missing top and bottom portions of the screen. :blush: So long as it's NVIDIA doing the resizing, and the computer resolution itself is set to the recommended 1920x1080, it goes back to looking good, but since it's simply a bigger screen running the same 1080p as my last one, which defaulted at 1680x1050, it just doesn't look as crisp. It's a mixed blessing, since I can just keep things at 1680x1050  anyway, and use the same size as before.

I had a very similar problem when I set up my PC to my big screen. It's optimized at 1920x1080 but my task bar and some other stuff was not fitting within the resolution. I had some options on my samsung that let me fit it in proper size. But that's something to know about. Just because screen resolution is measured the same, it doesn't always fit properly with different components. Like tablets and smart phones.

 

I read a bit about this more on this tutorial last night as I'm resizing some textures to do some hires.

Still trying to figure out why the desktop needs to be 1680x1050, though. It fills the screen, just like 1920x1080 would with games. Makes no damn sense. My desktop icons, and websites I browse, and pics I view are all somewhat lower rez, due to the seemingly foreign, or at least unoptimized 1920x1080 rez. Feels like this TV has a larger screen than it should, and 1920x1080 pushes it to unnatural levels, with expected consequences. Still, looks better than it did before I put the comp's rez back to the recommended 1920x1080, and using NVIDIA to resize.

What is the current refresh rate for the desktop and for the TV? Do they support the same refresh rates at full HD?
