AeroTheAirbender Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hello all! I've been thinking of trying out Skyrim. For the 10th time now. Sometimes the game works nicely, on low-medium (potato pc here) but recently when I uninstall it, leave it for a while, come back it laggs and shit. And repeats. I haven't really asked anyone if my system specs can ATLEAST run it on low. However, whenever the launcher auto-detects my system, it's set on Medium. But it lags. Or I'm just impatient. Either way.... Here is my specs: Processor: AMD Athlon 2 or II P320 Dual-Core Processor 2.10 GHz RAM: 3.00 GB (2.74 usable) OS: 64 Memory: 3072MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 2810MB RAM Page File: 2131MB used, 3488MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicodeard name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. That's it. If there's anything more you want to know about my specs, just let me know. Also I've heard of a couple of mods that improve performance and such. But I don't really know if they work or not, also if it suits my PC. I've heard that hiAlgoo Boost is very good, but last time I downloaded it, it didn't seem to work. Anyways any mods that can help is appreciated. I really want to get back to Skyrim. Any help is appreciated. Take Care!
Aurora95 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 You shouldnt trust what skyrim thinks is right.. it sets my laptop to "high" but the game barely runs at that Theres a mod that disable shadows that i use.. brings performance right up!
hentaijin Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Pretty weak computer, I'd just save money for a new one, but if you want to get it running you'll have to do a lot of tweaks to get a reasonable framerate and the graphics ant goin be pretty then. mods that lower the texture resolution and take away minor details like 3d mesh rocks/ect will improve performance. Also don't even think of using an ENB or any extra post processing. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6387 do some searching around, there are many mods that are tailored to low end machines.
Setekh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Display Memory: 1402 MB Dedicated Memory: 252 MB Shared Memory: 1149 MB One of the biggest issues is right here. Only 256megs of dedicated VRAM, I had more than that on an X1950 back in 2007, the rest is cannibalized from system RAM which is much slower. That processor looks super low end also. Recommend you save for a new system honestly.
Guest Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Get a new PC its not worth running on that system, like running a Wii game on an n64
Rayblue Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 The specs tells me that it's a very old laptop, which means there's no way to run Skyrim on it unless you'll have to really use the lowest resolution possible, and no, you can't use mods on this. Especially cosmetic mods. Best to get a new PC, now that there's more bang for the buck than 5 years ago.
Thorham Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 There's some things you can do to try and get Skyrim to run in a playable manner. I myself use some mods to run Skyrim on an Amd 3400 Apu with 6450 graphics card. HialgoBoost: http://www.hialgo.com/Downloads.html SKSE (Hialgo needs this): http://skse.silverlock.org/ Reduced vanilla textures: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/14504/?#content Be sure to download the Skyrim version of HialgoBoost, and not the universal one. HialgoBoost also has an .ini file in which you can tweak some settings. A good one is setting the default resolution to 50% to start with. If you're having problems with that, just ask. Hialgo is great when it works on your system. It removes stuttering and has the option to reduce the 3D rendering resolution. After installing these, turn down all the game settings as much as possible. As for script heavy mods, realize that Skyrim has over 10000 scripts already. A few more won't hurt if they're not heavy.
