Skyrim Stability problems

I have been having problems with the game crashing during gameplay and on loading in, I want to start a new game and try to get rid of some mods that may be less stable, I have a very long load order though and I do not really know which ones might be causing stability issues.

Are any of those particularly bad for stability? Everything works fine except for seemingly random crashes and frequent crashes when loading a save that has been going for a while.

 

And as for tes5edit, how exactly does that work, do I need to clean each mod individually? Kind of worried if I start trying to clean stuff I might break something permanently.

I would expect to only have 1 of the merchant rarity esp and 1 of the loot rarity esps active at one time, might be worth checking out the mods home page.  Just checked its homepage you should only have one each of the rarity esps active not all of them.

 

As for tesedit, when you run loot or boss, it should say in its report which mods need cleaning, though you may want to check on the mods homepage as to whether you need to clean it or not as some mods don't and shouldn't be cleaned

Yeah, I use the x8 ones, they arnt all checked in mod organizer, but when I copied the loadorder.txt they were all there.

 

How important is cleaning with tes5edit? I have never used it before and it seems like that would be an easy way to mess stuff up.

 

Can I just load each mod that loot is saying to clean and do it individually? Or should I be loading them all at once?

Rnd crashes happen, for the crash on loading a savegame this is common you have diffrent options to improve this you either do:

 

- Make a "kickstart" savegame (make a savegame in a small cell or right after character creation and load this savegame allways before you load the savegame you want to play)

- Use Shesons memory patch (SKSE memory patch)

1. Download and install SKSE 1.7.1 (or newer)

2. Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data and see if you have a SKSE folder with an SKSE.ini file inside. If you do, add these values to SKSE.ini:

ClearInvalidRegistrations=1

[Display]

iTintTextureResolution=2048

[Memory]

defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768

scrapHeapSizeMB=256

 

If you don't have an SKSE.ini file, create one using the editor

 

- Use Skyrim safety memory editor SSME (this is what the memory patch above does but within a mod so this is kinda absolute)

 

You ask what mods are bad for stability the awnser is all, but there are mods that cost performance or are script heavy, but your loadorder is far from being big or heavy. If you don't crash every xx minutes you have no problems.

Edit: As far as I see you install it the same way as stated in the data folder just make sure non of your MO mods contains a skse file (I have never seen a mod that contains one)

You can also create a mod in MO that contains SKSE folder with skse.ini (create new folder in mods folder in MO installation folder). Doing it this way also shows you if one of your mods already has skse.ini and there would be overwrite problems.

Still trying to figure out tes5edit, trying to follow http://www.creationkit.com/TES5Edit_Mod_Cleaning_Tutorial#Checking_step_first guide, loot says update.esm needs to be cleaned but follwing the "checking step first" part, tes5edit isn't finding any errors.

 

So the skse.ini should work if I just put it in a new mod folder in the organizer? Sounds easy enough, will give that memory edit a try.

you can put the skse.ini in your data directory where it belongs or make it like in the quote both ways work as far as I see, but again I dont use MO so I can't say it for sure

 

Read the >skse_steam_loader.log< found in the SKSE folder in >>....\Users\[your user name]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SKSE

End of log should state...

The fat part is what the memory patch is changing if this is in your log the patch is installed correct

The memory patch helps simply said on every loading screen (if you load a game or fast traveling or changing cell's)

For the cleaning part I have never cleaned a mod so I can only give my personal opinion on cleaning I think its overrated and not necessary if you don't know what you are doing it sure is not positive, but as said this is a personal opinion.

Well, following a different guide now and tes5edit seems to be doing its thing, it is also saving a back up of every file so shouldn't be too catastrophic if it messes crap up, I can just restore the backups.

 

The reason I think tes5edit should help is... looking at my papyrus logs i get a lot of spam about references not existing and crap, I think that might be why some of the crashes are happening.

Actually I think I have found the real reason I was crashing so much on loading, I had a mod called Safetyload that is supposed to prevent infinite load screens (by causing a ctd), it seems it was taking so long to load my saves that safetyload was causing ctds when it did not need to, after I removed it I am not having any issues loading in
