User13 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Really hoping someone can help me out. It's been at least a year and a half, perhaps longer, since I last played Skyrim. I'd very much like to play again, however, when I try, my characters float. I mean, their arms and legs don't move. They are just sort of floating mannequins. Obviously I've got issues somewhere. The problem is figuring where. I've modded the heck out of my game. I was using Mod Organizer to keep track of everything. I've tried turning most everything off, but then I just CTD. I don't even remember how to go about giving myself a clean slate so to speak, using MO. Can anyone please tell me how I'd go about starting over, or testing what I have to find the problem, or the easiest way really to get back into my game? I'd prefer not to lose any of the characters I already have, and most of them are based on either the RCOTS or Skykids mods. Any advice would be much appreciated.
mybrainhurts Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 There may be other problems as well, but at the very least you need FNIS.
User13 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Ok, Mr. Gumby, I'll look into that, but that can't be what's causing the problem in the first place, as I never downloaded that. Or does it purport to fix such issues?
Gameplayer Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Floating T Pose animation. That's what it sounds like, you can post pictures in PNG format directly to the bottom of your post its a lot faster. The fix for this is to make sure that you have A Skeleton, such as XPMSE Skeleton And FNIS Your going to have to install and then use the Batch file that is in the FNIS folder structure. This should fix animations at least. Note that some animations can and will cause problems anyway especially noticeable on NPC's issues such as not being able to put away weapon or get weapon out can plague some animations on NPC Another thing is that some animations do not flow smoothly into one another and can cause temporary T POSE during stress on game system. So be careful about using full replacers for all npc's You have another option with player only animation but this can also be problematic on heavy installs. I'm afraid your best option is to either get a really good pack of animations that were entirely made by the animator or just use the default pack for standard animations.
mybrainhurts Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Ok, Mr. Gumby, I'll look into that, but that can't be what's causing the problem in the first place, as I never downloaded that. Or does it purport to fix such issues? FNIS is the system that allows Skyrim to play the animations and idles found in the mods on LoversLab and elsewhere. The situation you describe - people floating around like mannequins - is the definitive symptom that you need FNIS or, if you already have it, that something is wrong with your installation of it. As I said, you may have other problems as well, but not having FNIS is the only one that can be identified given the information you've provided.
User13 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 Attempting to download and install FNIS. The first problem I'm having is that for some reason Mod Organizer won't connect with Nexus and I don't understand why. The account name and password for Nexus in MO are correct. I've verified it three times now. Every time I attempt to update a file in MO I get a little message first saying that the file can't be found, and then a second one saying 'check your password'. Any ideas? I've gone ahead and downloaded FNIS manually, and placed it inside my skyrim/modorganizer/mods folder, and it shows up in MO, but as a light grey with a red X. I've attempted to install it from MO by right clicking on it, but it wants me to take it to an executable I believe. Should I take it to tools/generatefnisforusers.exe? I know how to configure it in 'Modify Executables' but not how to get it installed in the first place. Any help appreciated.
mybrainhurts Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Sorry, I don't use MO. It doesn't seem to know how to install anything.

Well, maybe you could be the one to explain to me how to intall FNIS Or get MO to work with Nexus.
MrFlyte Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Can't help you with MO - I don't use it. With FNIS, download the mod from the nexus, make sure you download the "Always Necessary" file - I don't use the FNIS spell, but you are welcome to download that too, but know that it is NOT necessary. In addition, download the "Creature pack" if you have any mods that are dependant on it (I believe quite a few SL modules are) - if you don't have any mods with dependencies from FNIS Creature, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT. Extract the package to your skyrim/data folder. After it is done extracting, navigate to Skyrim/Data/tools/generateFNIS_for_users once there, run the .exe, in the tick boxes at the bottom, make sure to tick only the mods you know you have installed, along with the 2 patches at the top of the list (GENDER, and SKELETON) For example, I have some of the XP32 animations, so I have: GENDER - check SKELETON - check xp32 PCEA - nope xp32 running with bow - check xp32 1h weapon - check xp32 Acrobatic jump - nope rangphale Horse Mounted Combat - nope Once you have all the stuff that YOU have installed checked off on the list, click the big "Update FNIS Behavior" button and let it run it's thing - should only take a couple seconds. Read the log and see if it found any errors or warnings. Keep in mind if you are running PC Exclusive Animation Path, you should get 2 warnings most of the time. If you have FNIS creatures, but have no mods that actually use the creatures (not sure why you would have downloaded it in the first place) make sure to "de-install creatures". I found with it installed it tends to break a few animal animations, such as foxes and bears (oh, my!) Once done, your FNIS should be proper up to date!
User13 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 I honestly don't know what mods I have which use FNIS. The only ones I have which affect skeletons are Rcots and Skykids. I think I'm still in a spot of trouble however, because I can't do a straight extraction into skyrim/data because I use MO. I've dropped the file in MO's mod folder, but when I open the program itself, it shows that FNIS hasn't been installed, and when I tell it to do so, it's trying to get me to browse to the executable, but of course there isn't one. Not that type at any rate.
mybrainhurts Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 There are MO support threads here on LL, just poke around the tech support forums.
Shadowscale Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Anything that adds or changes animations need FNIS including installing a skeleton (not the monster).

Dinosaurus Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You can also google "Installing FNIS through Mod Organizer" and you'll be lead to S.T.E.P which has a guide. http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer Search that page for where you see "Fore's New Idles for Skyrim (FNIS) maybe added in this manner:" or... you can click their link and watch the youtube version linked on the S.T.E.P page. https://www.youtube.com/embed/6MqZ-EPdBvk Google knows all! i'm also pretty sure that S.T.E.P. page tells you how to get Mod Organizer to work with the Nexus Manager links. Though personally i just download the mods manually and then install'em with the little "CD" icon on the top left of Mod Organizer.
