Anyone with a AMD Radeon R9 280X ?

If so, how does it work with ENB+Parralax in Skyrim? My current GTX 660 2gb only gets 20-30 fps (with only ENB+Parralax, and most ENB effects turned off). This is on a brand new install, with ONLY ENB+Parralax so no CPU intensive mods at all. When I go in and add a bunch of other mods, FPS is still 20-30 FPS xD So its definitely ENB and Parralax causing it

 

Also, my 660 only gets 15-20 fps on lowest settings in Witcher 3, but I have the development version so it might perform better at release...still SUPER low and I doubt I'll get much FPS increase at release.

 

I tried playing Rome 2 total war and Attila and I get 20-30 FPS too.

 

Also, my current GPU is dying...drivers crash over and over, tons of artifacts, textures go missing...once booted up and my PC couldn't detect my GPU. I kicked my case and rebooted and it worked But its still causing tons of problems.

 

So I have to upgrade my GPU no matter what.

 

And I was looking at that AMD one, its only 209 dollars on Amazon...so really cheap for a GPU.

 

Was just wondering if anyone else has it and their experience with Skyrim (and maybe other games, but mostly Skyrim as I play it the most).

I have r9 280 (without x). WIth Project Parallax and Sushi ENB (disabled dof) i got my stable 60fps even outdoors. 

Other games run pretty well too (Watch Dogs - 50fps on ultra).

awesome Thanks. I know my GPU really struggles with more modern gaming. In fact, I probably broke it because I stressed it too much with Skyrim Then it was a finishing move with Witcher 3 rofl...that is what made my PC not boot up once for failing to detect the GPU xD

 

In the next few days or week or so I'll be buying one. So I can leave my own personal feedback too.

I have an overclocked R280x w/ 3gb, I don't use the parallax textures but it handles everything I can throw at it.

GPU today really don't burn out easily, are you sure it's not your PSU causing the problem?  If it's the PSU then your 280x will have a short lifespan as well since it sucks down much more power than 660. 

 

It's never worth it to go cheap on the PSU.

Yeah, my power supply is fine. I did a bunch of tests on it when I was stress testing my GPU and CPU. Power was 100% fine on both tests. But when my GPU was under stress, my computer crashed and a bunch of artifacts showed up.

When I stress tested the CPU, it was fine. Nothing misbehaved at all. It was only when I stressed the GPU that it crashed and started misbehaving. My PC shut down, before that, artifacts of all kinds and weird things happened. Major issues.

 

With that said...I still plan to upgrade my CPU (its an i5 660, yeah I know rofl). pretty much going to replace my CPU this year to a more modern one, but probably have to wait till christmas/black friday/new years sales.

 

As for temperature. I put in two extra fans (so I have 6 in total), got a much bigger and more open case, and 100% dusted everything. Before that, I admit temp was a bit high...but it went down really low after I did all that and it still crashed on the stress test of GPU. And weird things still happen.

 

Don't remember what numbers were at when high and what they are now...but its at normal temp now.

Well, put in the new GPU. Getting 50-60 FPS now with ENB and all my mods Before I was getting 30 on average with drops to 20 or so. No more artifacts, drivers crashing or anything. And witcher 3 is working on high settings with 40-50 FPS

 

Great card. Plays Skyrim really well too for me. Plus my other games work good too.

Well, in case someone brings it up. I wasn't happy at all compared to my first impressions.

 

I turned on parralax, and FPS dropped A LOT. I tried playing witcher 3, and while at first I was getting 40-50 FPS I started getting blue screens and major artifacts. And I looked at the card, and it looked like pieces of it were chipped off or fell off or something as things were missing on it that should have been there.

 

I took it back to Frys (where I bought it from) and got my money back. That makes two horrible AMD experiences, my last experience with a AMD card was years ago and I had major issues too (card crashed, and other major issues).

 

I'll be saving my money for a GTX 970 from Nvidia. From what I read, it plays really well with gaming and modded Skyrim. Plus it passes Witcher 3's recommended system requirements.

I don't want to start fanboy debate but this is often not the fault of the chip makers.  This generation of AMD chip does run hotter than Nvidia but most of the time it's the card makers skimping on parts that caused a card to fail.  Unlike motherboard which is now down to just about 3 big companies, who are all pretty good at this point, graphic cards still has some small value PCB makers.  Their cards are usually 5-10% cheaper than the likes of Asus and that's where the failure rate will get you.  I rarely deviate from the motherboard brands with graphic cards, Asus/MSI/Gigabyte, maybe EVGA or Sapphire but that is it.

I started having issues with mine crashing after reaching full power for a short time in the last few days. I thought it was a heat issue but it started happening even at idle, turns out my power supply was starting to fail (it was about 5 years old). I put a new one in yesterday and have had no issues since. I will say though the standard settings on the fan speed for AMD cards is too slow and needs to be more aggressive (I have mine set to 100% at 50c).
